Can the meta send support mid?

I feel that the game would feel more fun, especially for supports, if the meta sent them mid-lane rather than bot-lane. From mid, the support could be allowed to roam to either of the side lanes or tag-team with the jungler as needed, depending on synergy, support type/playstyle, and game-flow of the specific match.

What would be needed to make that happen? More XP in the mid-lane than side-lanes? Change tower fortification in the mid-lane? Special support-controlled objectives scattered around the map? What are your ideas? Would this be a healthy meta shift?

Edit: To clarify, I am describing the mid-lane becoming the duo-lane. I am not suggesting that supports become solo-laners and replace current mid-laners. Whether marksmen, mages, or assassins would become the mid-carries in a duo-mid-lane, and what type of champion would thrive in new the bot-solo-lane are good topics to discuss but are separate from the main topic which is purely about the support role and which lane the meta positions it in.

I like this idea, I think supporting from the midlane could be fun and shuffle up the gameplay enough to give it a fresh spin. Frankly, the current meta is feeling kind of stale... it's been around for awhile.

The problem with that would be the people who normally go mid lane (Mages or AD Assassins/Fighters), where would they go? Bot lane with the ADC? They wouldn't really do well down there other then being an annoying kill lane that wins lane hard but falls off and becomes useless Mid/Late game. Though there are some champions who do well in both Mid lane and Support like Annie Brand Karma Lulu Lux Malzahar Morgana Zilean Zyra.

I get the idea of it though, you want supports to go mid lane so they could roam and help bot and top lane. But at the same time, they're not as item dependent as other champions, and don't get as strong as others with levels. Because of this, they work better with the ADC in the bot lane and would be more ideal leaving mid lane to some one who needs the CS to afford their more expensive items and level advantage. If you really wanted to play a "support" in the mid lane then you could get away with most of the champions I listed.

Tbh i'm fine with anything ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Usually if my friend plays top and my adc is shit, I go to toplane to help push or something And sometimes i go mid if my bf is playing there But your idea could be cool [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

The FIRST problem, (and let me say, I DONT KNOW HOW ANY OF YOU DIDNT THINK OF THIS ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), is that youre about to leave an adc solo bot? That is the single dumbest thing ive ever heard, so if you want an answer.

You would have to completely remove the ad role and run a top laner both top and bottom, make them tanky, or give them immediate escapes. It would be a feeding frenzy for jgs botlane.

There are about 500 more reasons it ended up this way but i promise its the best and its not ever going to change.

The only other feasible option would be to forgo jg and run 2 top, which again, isnt optimal, and isnt going to happen.

I think the point of supp/adc bot was to keep the adc safe. Mid has too many angles which a gank can come from so it isn't ideal.

It can definitely work in most games but not as well in any real competitive setting.
