I believe it actually helps you get better at the game. I main Yi, obviously I watch Cowsep and Danijrm for Yi specific things but I also like watching top lane one tricks. The champs they play are totally different from me with a totally different role but understanding general top lane helped me know how to gank it or play around it as a jungle player.
Also, while I myself am bad at one-tricking, it is also impressive to watch the dedicated high elo one tricks pick their main into near impossible match ups, then listening to the commentaries on how to get around them. Like Riste's Garen vs pre-nerf Aatrox or Fogged's Tryndamere vs Vayne. Also opens your mind to more weird stuff when you see a mid Garen somehow steamroll the game at Masters level. On top of that, It teaches you how to play when games aren't going in your favour from the get go. That said, I still want to afk when I see an Akali/Vayne on the enemy comp or get an enemy Graves when I play Yi.
If you're good enough to play your Zed into bad matchups, the skills you gain from turning "losses into wins" can benefit you when you pick up a new champ.
