A question about autofill

Being autofilled grants you protection for X games. However, being in promos also grant you protection for any game in the promos. The question is: In case you get protection from being autofilled the last game out of promos and enter series afterwards, when you'd have protection anyway, will this still consume the protection you got from being autofilled?

In other words: I get autofilled, I get protection for X games. Next 2 games, however, is promos where I'd get protection anyway and I win these two games, meaning I get promoted and am now out of series, no longer having its protection. Will I still have X games of protection, since I haven't used the reward of being autofilled, or only X-2 because the games during promo will count?

It makes sense it would work the first way however in case they didn't count with this, the way it's programmed might cause it work the other way. Does anybody know?
