That wasn't actually why they reworked Taric. Is was part of the problem, which was that his kit was outdated. However much more of the problem rested in having two auras that, like pretty much any league aura, couldn't be balanced while making the playerbase happy. They removed the point and click stun because it sapped too much power from his kit by being on a basic ability.
