I have thought plenty about this. and though im just a lowly unranked casual aram an occasional rift player. I feel, That some insight could be provided.

aRam - All Rando All Mid. when we break this down. to its 3 or 4 components; we are left with less than a handful of info. ALL, meaning blitz, heim, vinegar, zyra; plenty of champs that have aoe or single target abilities that can be highly optimized on the abyss.

The Arrggghhh in aram. Random. This is literally rolling dice,.. so to speak. I'm sure rito puts in this to add a slight tinge of balance. but it really does feel random if your champ pool is bigger than like 15. As i bought more champs and the trade off of being or seeing vinegar slowly started opening up more diverse games. It was directly related to my own champ pool the amount of entropy I had in my own champ pool. I just hit 55 champs. and starting back in i believe '12 or '13 i have invested slight time into this game. Tho I'm no pro I still have seen plenty of games. And to update the ideas that were used in the past to counter veigar, they all have been eliminated.
The Snowball or any sort of tp or dash that passes the barrier [(E) Veigar's] will stop you in place. snowball, warwick's q, jarvin, tree dude(ivern) they all get stopped and add stacks to vinegar's passive.
There is no longer a reasonable random counter that makes any more sense than zil going full ad crit that can reasonably counter viegar. [ Zilean with gunsoo's, nashor's, ludens, liandry's, warmong's, and RoA. could maybe do the job. but still a risky build seeing the playstyle changes a butt load doing this.
the counters exist, and I understand I counter my own argument by saying that I feel aram is supposed to have a highly random element to it. all being a key word used twice in the title of the game type.
that being said, i countered a veigar as i wrote this post and hope everyone can enjoy veigar as an opponent and a teamate
