How does a DC not result in non-loss?

I just played a game where our Top left the game after level 8. My team managed to do fairly well, but couldn't pull out a win as we were simply out-manned in the late game. My question to Riot is, "How does this count as a loss?". Why should me and my fellow team mates suffer a loss of IP because some dickhead decides to leave for the entire game basically eliminating any chance of winning?

Surprisingly, this is the only time this has happened to me so far this season and I know it will happen again. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that it still counts as a loss. There should be a system put into place so when a player AFKs or DCs for the majority of the game that the loss is deferred for that team.

Sure thing - what's your counter for when you're duoing with a buddy, you're losing hard and the discussion goes "Who's gonna dc so we don't lost LP?"

What's your counter for team's that are losing all ganging up and flaming someone until they rage quit?

Realistically: How is it fair for a team to get Loss Prevented and the other team still gets a Win?

Basically Riot would need to be able to tell the difference between someone who quits and someone who disconnects. It is insanely easy to fake a disconnect, so I don't see that happening. If DCs and quits left the other members of the team with a prevented loss, however, I can promise you the level of toxicity in a losing game will rise dramatically in an attempt to force someone to quit.

What I believe we need is a longer term system for leavers that can see whether or not someone is prone to quitting, or simply DCs from time to time, and punish the former far more than the latter. We don't need games where people give up the moment someone disconnects, we need fewer disconnects.
