Toxicity of solo queue

Now, i want to talk about something a bit controversial. In the dynamic queue rectangular table Riot stated that dynamic queue greatly reduced toxicity, while this may sound good on paper, the reason why people become ''toxic'' is that the old solo queue created a very competitive and frustrating environment for most people. But the thing we should not forget is that people were toxic in that game mod was because they ''cared'' a lot about that game. Reduction of toxicity does not bode well for a game that wants to last for generations, it needs people that really care so much about the game that they rage, blame, flame. I believe toxicity is an indication of people showing their affection to the game. Thats just my opinions about the toxicity in solo queue and i don't think league can last as an e-sport without it's ragers.

the real problem is that people are already connected over skype/ts and don't even bother using the chat.

Thats simply another fake statistic by riot to defend their shitty DynamicBullshitQueue

I think that's load of horse crap tbh.

Raging and flaming and throwing tantrums just shows that you're a child that is unable to control your emotions.

Toxicity is precisely the reason that many people outright refuse to even try the game, and it pushes people away from playing in general.

Interesting take OP. If you look at other sports (e.g. basketball, football, and hockey) a lot of the other players constantly talk smack and that is just considered part of the game. While not all players engage in this behavior it happens. The mute button is there and so easy to use and ppl need to grow thicker skins and learn to ignore. That being said death threats, racial slurs and the like should not be permitted.

I would say MUCH LESS toxicity because of new draft. Don't think this part is debatable.

SAME toxicity SQ vs DQ, can we seriously stop acting like the change in party member size for queueing makes it any more or less a game of League of Legends?

Lastly, so what you're saying is when I play with some new players and that one guy in my game is calling every one noobs and name calling, he's just passionate about the game and I should be praising him. Hahaha what the?!??

A certain degree of toxicity exists, but smack talk is different from say refusing to play and making the rest of your team play with a man down or intentionally making the enemy team stronger so that your team cannot win. You have to remember that League of Legends has temporary teams, not permanent ones, and that is very different from many other sports. They're allowed to do what they want and basically get away with it unpunished.

My apologies, but you're flat-out wrong about what a game needs in order to last. It doesn't actually need the... let's call it "passion" of ragers, blamers, dcers, etc. It needs a constant influx of new players.

You know what discourages people from trying a new game? A toxic, uninviting culture.

People lose interest. People get busy, or sick, or die. You can't rely on catering to the same group of players for the next few decades. If the game is going to last, it needs to continuously bring in new players. That's why a lot of game companies, including Riot, are trying to broaden their player bases and create a more friendly, welcoming environment. Because if their game isn't sufficiently welcoming to new players, the game WILL peter out. That's just how biology works--no human lives forever, and neither will any human-based activity without new participants.

... all the toxicity was due to the old champion select. Not due to soloQ per se.

BluePolarizer6/7/2016, 4:37:59 PM5 votes

No, you are wrong.

It is one thing like in basketball, you are like "man, this sucks, you guys gotta shape up" and another to sit down in the middle of the court or take the ball and say "trash point guard, we already lost, I'm not playing this". Or in soccer, you score own goals because "the team deserves to lose".

"In the dynamic queue rectangular table"

Rolf, so accurate!

The thing is, those Rioters at the "round" table weren't differentiating between "New Champion Select" and "Dynamic Queue".

They also forgot to mention, Leaverbuster and Chat Restriction Systems were updated like a month before Dynamic Queue went live, which by the laws of logic, contaminates statistics they supposedly have.

Does this post qualify as stockholm syndrome?

If you care about the game then you care about the state of game balance and the development of your own ability; toxicity is almost exclusively about criticizing others for their mistakes and being toxic shows a frightening amount of immaturity and inabilty to look at your own mistakes or consider the feelings of others.

Enough, everyone, incluiding Riot, knows that DQ sucks, and this and many other arguements have been made several times, don't play the system and see it fall in a couple of months, complain while playing and prolong your own missery.

TL:DR

People become to some degree toxic because of frustration and the challenge.

Get rid of the frustration from a challenge and people become less toxic but in turn have little to no reason to bother with the challenge in the first place.

The problem I see with this is that a toxic player can ruin the game for a player that equally cares about the game. I care a lot about the game, but when I'm losing, I don't scream and rant at the players on my team that may be doing badly. Why? Because everyone has bad games. The pros have bad games, I've seen it. We have so many toxic players telling us to KYS or uninstall the game or sell your skins that sometimes it just not a fun game. Don't get me wrong, I play everyday, sometimes for hours and I have a great time. Up until we get someone who wants to whine and blame. They start from the very beginning and chat chat chat or spam you with pings, leading to poor concentration and even poorer playing. If everyone would just worry about how their playing or maybe try to help the player out a bit with their bad game this would be a much more peaceful community.

This game is in the worst state its been in for solo players than it ever has been. Its toxic because of the shitty tank meta is really frustrating to play in and it promotes toxicity by every time you even criticize people you get reported. They've created a culture where being a whiny little bitch is promoted. If they don't do something about the current garbage meta I guess I'll be one of the many who are walking away from this once incredible game.
