Is lethality really the right thing for zed?

Lethality feels like too much damage, after some dinking around in practice tool and live ranked matches, I've realized going full damage on zed feels kinda dumb, your full combo does something like 8000 damage against an armored target dummy, and I know zed's preferred targets aren't that tanky.

I've tried building him semi tanky and his full combo comes out to a reasonable 4000 damage, enough to take out all but a full tank garen.

Hail of blades makes zed a whole different beast though.

I personally like tiamat first item (top main so I might be prejudiced, but tiamat is the best item in the game) You get decent ad, waveclear so you can roam and not be shoved under tower all game, the item active damage is equivalent to an autoattack damage wise, and you get that sweet hp regen, , and doing raptors instantaneously gives you a good cs lead over your enemy and puts the enemy jg behind.

Black cleaver is amazing on zed, 40ad isn't huge, but with 400 hp you don't die if you get a 1 second stun on you, and the 20% cdr gives you sweet up time on your w, plus the movespeed helps to annihilate adc's without blowing your whole kit

Ravenous after this is pretty good, I run titanic occasionally (if vs very tanky team) the lifesteal feels pretty good, and doing raptors instantaneously gives you a good cs lead over your enemy and puts the enemy jg behind.

Then I go into PD+Infinity edge or Maw/QSS, crit on zed feels amazing, his crit animation reminds me of the shredder, (im onto you zed) and autoing with hail of blades you're garenteed at least 2 crits with 50% crit chance, if you're running bloodline/ravenous you can actually sustain through 1v2/3 skirmishes.

If possible I like to have 40% cdr if it's going to real late game, having your w up more often makes you much more useful in teamfights, normally at full build I have around 450/500 AD and 2.4k hp, 40% cdr and 50% crit chance, it actually feels monstrous right now.

Back when I was building lethality I started to feel pretty weak when the enemy team starts building armor, now if they're tanky I just straight up fight them.

What do you guys think? Is this actually a good build or is it just a gimmick?

Nah, lethality ruined AD assassins.

And remember that if you have enough lethality, you deal True Damage to squishy targets, because you deal damage like they have 0 armor.

I don't see why you need Tiamat on Zed when he already has pretty good waveclear. Crit on Zed is a gigantic waste as well, you do the most damage through your skills not autos so... this feels like a cheese build that won't work past low elo

Beauty of lethality zed is, you dont need your ult to kill squishies. You w e q (hit both qs) and if you are "ahead of the gold curve" as you put it you will kill them, if not you can reactivate your w and finish them off with an auto and then ult a second target. Bruiser Zed is a complete waste, if you want to play a bruiser play another champion there are so many champs better at that than zed his kit is not designed to succeed as a bruiser. Play Kled, renekton, darius etc if you want to play a bruiser that does damage, they have CC sustain damage and really strong laning phases. source, top 2.5% ranked Zed - World
