The case of the disappearing mouse pointer

I quit playing for a while, then got a new PC and started playing again. One thing I noticed since then is that I lose track of the mouse pointer quite a bit. I don't know if it's the new PC setting, the new video card...I really don't know why it is except that the tiny gold hand simply isn't visible enough. It should stand out like a full moon in the night sky. Instead it's sort of, well, camouflaged. Is there any way to correct this and make the pointer more visible? I've tried googling this but it's a jungle out there and most of it is nonsense. Thanks in advance.
