@Meddler, any follow up on Yorick now that he has been out a few weeks?

I think new Yorick has a lot of potential but a few things stops him from being a really viable pick.

  1. Hard countered by most top laners. Like all juggernauts he have a hard time dealing with mobile champions. But where other juggernauts like Darius and Illaoi punish you for getting to close Yorick does little to nothing. Champions like Renekton or Irelia, or basically anyone with a dash can just go in and full combo you while you get maybe one Q off. Then safely go back, since your wall (W) wont hold them.

  2. AI I think his AI-companions need a little more love. Especially the Maiden. When not suiciding to towers she seems confused whether she should help you fight or continue pushing down lanes. The latter goes for the mist walkers too.

tl:dr I don't think a champion should be so heavily countered by such a common ability as dash. And his AI-companions need improvements.

Agreed; the first point I'm not surprised by, it was pointed out in the beta too; the second, I'd say ai stands for advanced ineptitude. Looks like they're trying to forget him again.

I would love to see some Riot comments on this as well. The elements of his gameplay that make it most difficult is the three Q on minions and monsters before he can start to feel safe in lane at all. Without having graves down to have ready to summon mistwalkers should an enemy be agressive, Yorick will end up failing hard, once established the AI has them the suicide chase away from him rather than leash to him. Then directing his flock is limited to a single skill which can miss easily, it should become harder to miss with it as ranks go up (much faster missile speed at higher ranks) or his Last Rites should mark the target.

I would think adjusting his passive to unlink him from stuff dying would help immensely and adjusting his Q to mark and dig graves based on the number of souls he has found recently up to a max of 4. This gives him a defined number of mistwalkers in fights to work with, if they want to keep some part of the graves generation based on things dying that would be fine, but he needs reliable access to mistwalkers and not wasting 75 mana and 20 seconds to have them up. As it is because of the requirements he ends up relying so heavily on his Ult in any unfavorable situation and then it is so slow to summon and respond that often it will not be useful in a skirmish. Everything about Yorick's kit requires him to preempt enemies, he has no reactive skill choices at all.
