Why is the ranked system so inconsistent

I climbed to Gold I 100 lp, lost my promos due to having AFK's 2 of my games. Tilted all the way to Gold IV 0 lp. Climbed back to Gold I, immediately go on a 5 game losing streak and get demoted to Gold II. Should there really be this much fluctuation? Am I randomly losing all of my skill? Is the difference between Gold II and Gold I that large? It honestly feels like my games are won based on the team mates I get, and it usually has little to do with how I play. I'll have a 8 game win streak, then suddenly get 10 straight teams that just don't listen to me or try for objectives. Teams that wonder around the map like vagabonds with no goal. Teams that contest 0 dragons. Teams that refuse to group. Teams that refuse to ward. Jungles that bait me into thinking they are ganking, then bail last second to let me die. The list goes on.

Well I honestly think ranked games are a coin flip. I agree with you to sometimes I go in a 8 game winning streak than 6 game losing streak and so on. The Past 10 games or so I consistently had feeders or afkers in my team and I do not get why I am playing with so many of these players. I feel like this game is not won by skills anymore but more by luck. Heck the auto fill system is also a huge problem, I hated the fact that as an adc main I was paired with a support player whom I felt was terrible because he did nothing in lane and I lost the lane badly only to realize that the player was not a support main and was forced to auto fill. I asked the enemy support and adc if they main their roles and both said yes. So Initially I was paired up with a lesser experienced/skilled player against two skilled and experienced players causing a huge mismatch in the bot lane. The worst problem about the ranked system is Riot not punishing feeders and afkers, I once saw a feeder who fed 10 or 15 kills in a matter of 10 minutes or more for 20 straight games and never got punished. I just do not understand why Riot do not do their job and punish players who tries to make other players lose games on purpose. I seriously hope Riot takes notice with our concerns!

You nailed it, humans are inconsistant :

2 afk in your promos > Unguessable by any matchmaking system You tilted all the way to gold iv > Unguessable by any matchmaking system

I also notice that when you die, you die a LOT. It looks like you only know how to play from ahead, but you don't know how to play safe. So it's not a surprise you hard lose when your team is behind and hard win when your team is ahead.

Leona conqueror ? How do you expect the matchmaking to be good when you randomly pull out something like this ? =')

In some games you buy 0 control wards, in some games you buy 4, in some games you placed 42 wards in 38 minut, in another you placed 20 in 36minuts

You climbed being otp amumu/lux and having a good winrate but once in a while you throw a nunu, a malphite with both the wrong build and wrong keystone, a kazix, or a rammus in the mix, and unsurprisingly, you are not performing very well.

Because you do have an elo gold 1, maybe even plat4 but only on some champions, the same way i do have a d3 elo on veigar, but I would not dare playing an ashe botlane at my elo, I would get CRUSHED, and it has nothing to do with a bad ranked system.

You see it now ? The ranked system IS consistent. The problem is its users, us.
