PSA: Sometimes you won't be able to win your lane no matter what you do.
Say I'm malphite and I get counter picked by a Darius. If I'm better than him, sure I can win lane. But assuming similar skill level he is most likely going to smash me.
Sometimes you can't win your lane, or the amount of effort or style of play will put you or your team at a disadvantage in the long run. Sure you can buy a morellos against swain as sion, but it puts you significantly behind in gold. It's not worth it to try to win your lane if you end up losing the game for it afterwards.
In these cases, you are better off ignoring your lane and taking objectives. Rotate, lane swap, pressure multiple objectives at once and make your opponents decide which they want more.
It has taken me the better half of s6 to realize this, and I know that this is what a LOT of complaints in the boards are about.
If you're playing for fun, by all means grab that ROA on poppy, or that executioners on Kled, but if you're competitive enough and want to win more, you need to let go of winning your lane matchup and focus on Winning the game.
Remember, this is only sometimes, and if you need to get ahead on a champion like riven, renekton, Kled, etc. Then it may be worth your while to do whatever it takes to win lane and snowball. Sometimes you can't win lane, and sometimes you can. I'm not here to tell you the difference, I'm here to tell you what to do when you can't win lane.
