Why are so many late game champions still so strong early?

Why is that? I can only think of Kassadin and Kayle that have really weak early game, to compensate for their strong late game. Compare that to Ryze, Azir or Cassiopeia that can outpoke you and outdps you already from start, especially if you are a melee. Nasus just needs to get lvl 6 and he can go even with most toplane champs and so on...

As counter-intuitive as it is Nasus isn't a late-game champion, despite his infinite stacking. He's a beast in late-game 1v1s, but there's a very good reason he splits all of late - he's generally ass-tier in late-game teamfights due to being CC'd too much to do much of anything. He'll autowin basically every 1v1, with the only exceptions being Yi and a few other champions if they build a very specific way, and all of that only until Nasus has enough stacks to kill them anyways, but he doesn't often get to use that great dueling power in teamfights just because he gets locked down too hard.

And late-game champs with a decent early tend to have weak mid-games to balance it out. Azir is safe in lane and strong in late, but in mid-game he tends to get blown up before doing much of anything.

Kayle is weak early.

cassio is useless before tear and she does good early in to some matchups she counter hard like nasus because she can kite.
