Advice on how to get Silver 5 as well as become a better player

Alright so I'm going to be upfront. I am no League of Legends god. Im far from being a pro and this thread isnt me complaining about how im not at the rank I feel I deserve. What i want to know is what can I do to win more in ranked matches. I can win lane but admittedly I dont know how to carry. Ive made it to my promos to get Silver 5 2 times in a row but both attempts fell flat. Now im finding it hard to (attempt) to carry players in ranked period. Im sitting on the lower spectrum of bronze 1 and my mind is baffled on what steps i can take to minimize damage in feeding lanes etc. And Yes I do infact roam with my teleport to assist struggling lanes. I main Garen and top is my preferred position. Constructive criticism is welcome, I just want to improve and hopefully reach my goal of Silver 5 before the season ends.

Update: Just went on a crazy winstreak and got Silver 5. Thank you guys! All your advice worked wonders for me. Its much appreciated.

Record your videos and whenever you make a mistake, evaluate what you could have done to avoid that mistake.

Also, posting recordings of your games is the only way for people here to help you.

Hi i'm silver 4 recently climbed out of bronze, playing alone like u, after like 1000 games in bronze, i have learned some things, i main top like u, but also play other lanes. Here's my advice:

1.-Disable the all chat, i have been punished by giving up or feeling the need to tell others how bad they are doing (flaming) and stuff. Believe me in our elos it doesn't matter what ur team has to say and the all chat is just to tilt the rival. So go into options, disable the all chat, and when u start the match type /ignore all, and just focus on playing.

2.-Watch the map, always buy a control ward when u have 75 gold to spare, and watch the map, sometimes i get the tunnel vision and got ganked but i try to watch the map whenever i can.

3.-Update ur trinket! Never forget to do this, if u are playing top and don't want to facecheck the bush just get the farsight alteration, or if u are playing vs teemo, get the sweeping lens when he reach lvl 6 and oracle alteration when he is lvl 9

4.-Focus on farm, not on trades, in the laning phase many people tends to be so aggresive, and yeah sometimes they will win the trade with a big combo, (for example pantheon with thunderlord's and ignite deals a lot of dmg) only trade if u know for sure u will win the trade. But the farm is way more important. If u don't know if u will win the trade, then just farm.

5.-Use pings to tell ur team someone is missing (or other things) even if him is not on ur lane.

6.-Get a small pool of champs to play, this way u will have like 4 or 5 champs for choice, avoidings the ban problems and getting countered.

7.-Take the right runes and masterys, if u have doubts, u can check some pages like mobafire.

8.-Based on ur experiencie learn who champs counters others, i mean we aren't pros but for example if i going vs gnar, i won't pick gangplank. That kind of stuff will give u the advantage in ur lane. if u have problems with some champ, search on reddit, how u can deal with him.

9.-As i said before, focus on farm, but also objectives, don't overstay in the map, if u took one turret down but u only can see one rival in the map, time to go, remember if the enemy is not in sight, can be anywhere

10.-Try to keep the herald, dragon and baron warded, even if ur supp don't have wards, do it urself or tell others to do it if u don't have wards at the moment.

11.-As Darkdemon said, try to watch ur replays to learn which mistakes u did.

Sorry for my bad english, is not my native language, hope it can helps.

Number 1 suggestion given what you've said would be to learn as much as you can about macro play. Being able to read the map (see what's happening and anticipate what things will look like 30 seconds to a minute+ in the future) is the most fundamental part of macro. I can look at the map and know almost immediately if I should stay in lane, or roam,... splitpush or group with my team, etc. It's not easy to learn that, it will take time to get a handle on it, but there are some 'rules of thumb' that can help:

When to roam: -Is my lane pushed out? (minions near opponent's tower) -Is the neighboring lane pushed in, or about to be? (they further away from their tower, the more vulnerable they are; you can actually walk over to mid lane instead of TP too, so ganking mid isn't out of the question if the opportunity presents itself) -Is my ult (or other important long CD related to the success of this prospective gank) available?

When to split push: -Do we have lane pressure in another lane? (This means the enemy faces multiple things needing to be dealt with at same time, which means they either split up and try to match the pressure, or choose what to give up and take their numbers to what they want to save; either way, good for you and your team) -Is the enemy preoccupied with something elsewhere on the map? (That could be taking dragon, it could be a brewing teamfight, it could be your allies sieging mid, or them catching your team out of position, doesn't matter. What matters is that they are busy and won't be coming to deal with you for a bit.) -Can I reasonably expect to win a duel with any one enemy that could show up to try and stop me? (This isn't strictly necessary, but it makes your splitpush threat WAY more impactful if they actually have to send 2 or more people to stop you. That said, even if you can't 1v1 each of them, it can still be productive to split push, you just have to choose the right times to do so for it to be productive.)

Those are kinda the fundamental tips to roaming and splitpushing, but there's a lot that goes into actually evaluating your options and choosing wisely, which is why macro is hard to teach, it's very reliant on your experience and knowledge of the game.

In the event that my team gets caught out of position, I immediately ask myself if I can get there fast enough to do anything, and whether or not I can actually make a difference if I do get there in time. If the answers to those two are not both a clear yes, it's better to not bother and keep doing something productive elsewhere (productive as in, it helps advance your team towards winning the game). I often end up trading objectives out of situations like that because instead of trying to salvage a lost cause fight, I do something worthwhile elsewhere on the map.

As for general learning from your league game tips, I have this to say: -Every game and everything that happens in those games are learning opportunities, mistakes and successes included. Ask yourself: what can I learn from this? -Avoid venting your frustration in chat, it will probably make your teammates play worse. If you have to vent, yell at your monitor if you must, but not anywhere your teammates can be affected by it. -Along the same lines, don't blame your teammates for things, even if they DID mess up. Ask yourself instead: what could/can I do about it/this? -Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. There is always a lot of stuff that isn't meta that's actually good, just not popular, and especially outside of high-level play, you can make almost anything work if you play it well enough. -It's a game, try to enjoy it and have fun playing. If it's really not fun, maybe play something else? If even for a little while.

One simple, concrete thing you can do is to make sure you always use your yellow trinket. It doesn't matter if you're placing good wards, just by placing them you'll eventually learn good spots and it'll also help teach map awareness (it's hard to learn to use your minimap when it doesn't tell you anything useful).
