My thoughts on Jungle in 8.10
Now im not a HUGE jungle player, let me get out of the way. But I dont REALLY main a role anyway. However I have tried to play a couple different champs in the JG this patch to get a good idea of what it did.
So in my most constructive way possible here is what I think needs to happen to fix jungle.
Let me start of by saying the GOAL of 8.10 wasnt bad. Junglers ganking at 3, when laners werent even halfway through 2 was a common thing. Especially if you get one of those 1.5 camp leashes if you have a cait of something bot that can secure the melees with Q. And Scuttle was completely AWFUL to take, unless you really wanted a "ward" (which wasnt too useful for detecting when they were going to baron anyway) It was mainly just a life-steal sink that few would like, and completely a waste of time for anyone with bad clear to take since it would take a solid 20-30 seconds to clear it.
So decreasing early ganking, and making scuttle useful are DECENT concepts... except how they were implemented was a failure.
What went wrong?: Well the extreme decrease in EXP has caused mass farming a requirement if you cant take scuttle. In fact just ganking alone once or twice can put you back a level. You have to non-stop farm and contest scuttle (cause its always up) to keep up with any decent clearing jungle. And for the most part ganking is a really poor trade-off because 1 kill =/= 1 level.
And in an attempt to increase diversity WHILE implementing an objective (a mostly important one) to fight over it decreased diversity instead.
Now I am all for scuttle being worth something, it makes sense, but it is so quick to clear (even with its increased health pool) on champions that can take it that if you arent there when its up its gone. Gank? Its gone, down 1 level.
So whats the solution? For one, for something the equivilent of a cannon minion it really should be up more rarely. Especially since that would give jungles more of a window to actually DO something before Scuttle just disappears. I think that scuttle being up every 130ish seconds i think it is next patch is still too often for how important it is. Make it somewhere between 3 and 4 minutes so that you can actually jungle in the jungle without non-stop being in the river.
Another thing, with the lack of ganks and nonstop farming junglers have issues keeping up in levels, The XP reduction is okay, but i think it takes too long to scale back to what it used to be. I think if they keep a similar scaling instead of 1-7 it should be 1-5. OR if they want to keep it to 1-7 they should have camps end up being worth more than they used to be (something like 220 instead of 180exp) so that IF you werent being able to get scuttles just being able to farm is possible to catch up if you get your camps. Later on it is harder to get camps anyway since laners start taking them by the 7th clear and you will be teamfighting by then anyway
So yeah these are my thoughts on how to fix our current jungle conundrum. I think the goal was in the right place, but it was executed in a bad way. I know a lot of people want flat reverts, but the jungle wasnt too healthy in 8.9 either, at least for laners who got nonstop ganked.
