You should NOT be allowed to play champs you don't know how to play in ranked.

Recently I've lost a few games where my teammate was playing god awful, and an enemy was trash talking them then my teammate responds with 'hey its my first game as XChampion"

I lost my mind. I literally stepped away from my desk for a second, we are losing because some goober wants to play ranked with a champ they don't even have any idea of how to play instead of just trying them in normals first.

It's so BS and seems like common sense that you should have to play a few games with a champ in normal before you play them in ranked

Even if its just 5 normal games, or hell even 3 that would be SO much better, 3 games isn't unreasonable, yeah it would be a bit annoying but a minor inconvenience for one player saves 4 other players from a lost game.

Yeah, no. People should be allowed to play whatever. Its a videogame. Dont like it? Play a single player game.

I think this would actually be a great application of mastery.

I'm not saying someone should have to be mastery 7 to play someone in ranked... but maybe something greater than mastery 0. Seems reasonable.

ive always thought you should at least have to have rank 3 on a champ to play them in ranked, its not fun having someone try to be a metaslave with a champ they dont even understand in a ranked game

The thing is how exactly would the system know you know how to okay with the champion? Just because you play x-amou t of games doesn't mean you understand the champion enough to play them. Same goes with masteries. It's pretty easy to get masteries. So people will just cheese the system and do the requirements just to do that and it will help solve nothing!

Someone playing a champion for the first time in ranked will reflect mostly on his own rank, and for the rest of the team it's actually not very different from someone simply having a bad game.

i would say you need to have at least a certain score with X champ from aram or mastery 3+ since mastery 4 takes a minute unless your good with it, in which case youll have it in like 5-10 games after reaching mastery 3

or a good 5v5 score to show you at least know the champs abilities.

but either way these can be fudged scores, you could land a team of bronze or new players that just suck and them playing vs a brand new champ they know nothing of, a lot will die very stupidly

I would LOVE to see a mastery ranking required to play a champ in ranked.

Must be rank 4 master to use this champ in ranked.

Normal games don't even come close to reflecting ranked though. I get matched against plats and diamonds who usually just stomp me but in ranked I face golds. That doesn't help me when the level of play is so different as I have essentially learned nothing. I could play 5 normals and lose all 5 then go into ranked. Plus a lot of people just play ranked anyway. I doubt riot is going to budge on forcing people to play X amount of normals if they havent for over 7 years.

I once had a 1st time Ornn jungle

Not much could be done at that situation

I don't diagree that you SHOULD have some basic understanding of a champion before taking it to ranked but I don't know that is important enough to make it a requirement.

I would guess that at higher ranks, players care enough about their own rank to not risk a new champion.

At low ranks, it won't matter. Not understanding basic skill and not knowing the abilities of teammates and enemies have just as big an impact.

Real example... I'm bronze 5, 0 LP running ashe at 25% win rate and jinx at 16% winrate. Just bought miss fortune but never played her. When ashe is picked by enemy, do you think it matters to my teammates if i pick mf over jinx?
