Shouldn't Spellthief's Edge be riskier?

Let look at the three support items:

Relic Shield: need to walk up to a minion to last hit it. Ancient Coin: need to stand on a shiny coin visable to the enemy to get the gold. Spellthief's Edge: need to hit the enemy champion with any spell or attack.

Furthermore; these items all seem to be catered to each class of supports. Shield for tanks, coin for enchanters, and STE for mages.

Yet, doesn't the normal spell/autoattack ranges of typical supports make STE the least risky choice anyway? Mage and enchanter supports can just lob skills from way back and still get way more gold then they'd get from coin.

Maybe coin should give a % bonus to heal and sheild power like the other support items. Maybe STE should give less gold when poking from a safe diatance.

only that siege minions give 60 gold per relic proc, coin gives you 15 gold per coin, while spellthives gives you 5 for basic attacking almost inside the enemy minions.

There are champions like Morgana who can proc it with instant aoe range spells, but most enchanters will either trade gold with an enemy enchanter or get in engage range from tank supports. Try to get get spellthieves when playing Lulu into Leona and everything besides your easy to dodge skill shot is easily in e range... There are also adc's that can punish you for tying to get spellthieve's stacks.

Spellthive's users are squishy and getting hit by any for of cc will cost them half their health in laning phase and unlike relic supports (who are also a little bulkier) they have no free life-reg or extra health on their item.

As long as the adc does not screw up, taking coin on a champ like Rakan or Janna will increase your gold quicker than spellthieves ever could (it also gives you more mana).
