Inverse PBE Please Riot

So the same way you have the PBE so people can test, you should have a small link somewhere to just play on the last or older patches. Don't advertise it, cause I know, you and pride and your current patch, but just let it exist and let people find it when they want to.

If you have large masses of people consistently going back to older patch(s), you would know hands down which patches really keep people happier! I mean for real, I get it, it's about Money and # of players/spending players! I get it! Then do something smart and make sure when you make terrible decisions that will cut your moneyflow, you have a real outlet to hear your frustrated customers.

Disclaimer: I never buy skins in this game because I feel like Riot couldn't care less about me as player and what I want, only what they want for meta. When you read patch notes, they literally type about what 'they want' and 'want to see' or 'how they feel about something' all the time. Those are the words they use, and it's not a coincidence. It's almost always about how they want to see the game played instead of just letting people play the game they want. It's the exact opposite of how LoL came to exist. It's tiresome.

Right now, I was gonna play LoL, but I'm just finally over it and complaining in forums cause scuttle change on top of jg nerfs. It not even worth it to run around map limping and behind whole game. I want to play. I want to even have excuse to give Riot money and buy skins, I'm a grown adult, they are more than affordable. I just don't care about Riot's weird obsession with teenage boy 'pros' and pro-wannabes then normal paying customers enough to give them money.

I promise you Riot, provide avenues for people to do what they want, and then watch what they do, and you will make more money than trying to cram every genius idea you have down everyone's throats. Look at repatch count for each ind skill at this point, so silly, you will never stop this circle the way you are doing it.

This concept would split too many people across ques and would result in not enough data to patch future patches. That's the reason they take away the RGM during mid season, so they can get full data by not having people break off into the RGM since mid season tends to be bigger changes.

Or they could lose money because there's no gaurentee the amount of effort and resources it'd take to have a third separate server to run it is going to actually have a big enough appeal to the people you think would play it.

As much as I loved the older seasons of the game and some of the aspects of them (pre-rework Shen, old runes, smite-specific buffs from camps) I think in 99% percent of cases it's never a good idea to add a "classic" version of a game. It can work in some scenarios like with OSRS and (hopefully) WoW Classic, but I really don't think it would work for a game like League.

As controversial as this is going to be to say, the current gameplay really isn't that drastically different from previous seasons. Yes, there have been some very huge shifts like with certain champion additions and Runes Reforged, but none of that warrants a complete revert back to an earlier version of the game. Whether people like it or not, current League is still very similar to old League, the core gameplay has not changed that much. (bring on the downvotes)

In addition to that, a revert comes with it's own set of problems:

  • A large majority of the playerbase still enjoys the changes that are made to the game. The vocal minority is always the loudest, which is why it can seem like the community hates the game entirely. Basically, the Boards and Reddit can be an echochamber. If a classic server were added, it probably wouldn't gain as much traction as the current game.

  • A revert removes a very large chunk of content that was good for the game and returns a bunch of old content that was bad for it. Kai'sa and Zoe may be gone, but... now we have the freshly reworked Graves who dominated the jungle and/or Kassadin with his point and click silence who dominated... well, everything. (see below before commenting/responding to this point)

  • While the above issues may be addressed with balancing, a revert would require a dedicated balance team and the cost of upkeep for the servers. I'm sure Riot could probably afford it, but it may not be worth it in the long run and splitting dev teams is never a good idea.

  • It would further fragment the community by increasing queue times, separating friend groups, and further-increase the debate people like to have over which 'era' of League was the best. To add a bit of personal flavor to this: I'm a Pyke main (ew, I know right?) and I wouldn't want to go back to earlier seasons where he didn't exist. He single-handedly saved my interest in this game and he wouldn't fit into the classic servers in any capacity.

TL;DR: I would like a revert/classic server and it would be cool for a little while, but it's just not realistic enough to warrant adding.
