Learn to take feedback

Hello all,

I just played an ARAM game w/ someone who managed to account for over 50% of all of our teams deaths. As statistical analyst, I like to give feedback with numbers. In this case, I advised my team mate that he/she was 24 of our 48 deaths (50%) and that he/she needs to play safer.

After the game, I got reported. I subsequently received a notification from Riot about my behaviour. This leads me to believe that I have been reported before, for much of the same thing.

While I will admit that sometimes my feedback is less constructive, my goal is ALWAYS to help my team realize errors, and correct them. League isn't about dying once. It's about adjusting to the game you're in - and more often than not, (especially at my elo) that means dying less.

Here's my question: is there anyway to deliver feedback in this game, without getting a hostile response? The more I play, the more I feel that some summoners are too toxic, and too sensitive. The worst part is that all of my toxic encounters have been with my own team.

I'm disappointed that there are so many people in this community that cannot take feedback or criticism, and I wish those people would learn to be more team players.

I hope you guys can post feedback about how to better deliver feedback, and offer suggestions on how we can improve the reporting system to block people who are actually toxic, instead of those trying to help and improve their peers.

"After the game, I got reported. I subsequently received a notification from Riot about my behaviour. This leads me to believe that I have been reported before, for much of the same thing." I'm not 100% sure this statement is accurate. I think it's slightly relative. If you almost never get reported, then that person had a duo or a triple or whatever for that ARAM and they all reported you, you'd get that statement. Sadly, RIOT has not installed a way of ignoring those statements.

Sadly, I've noticed that the younger generation (millennials) aren't that thick skinned. Thus, even if you attempt to deliver some advice in a nice fashion they find it insulting. I believe it's from their lack of ability to interact as a result of the computer age.

In the job world, one of the best ways to deliver advice is through a compliment sandwich.

"Hey man, I really like your item builds, you're doing great damage." "However, I was wondering if you could please attempt to play a little safer or ping when you're going to ult and go HAM so we can join you." "I know why your champion and your abilities we can win."

I presume something like that.

Delivering feedback is quite easy as long as you aren't pointing out the obvious. Is someone on your team dying a lot? They probably know. Someone pointing out the ratio isn't helpful. If you just ask them to be more careful then there shouldn't be a problem, and in my experience there never is (unless they're purposely trolling.)

Also, ARAM is all about dying and having fun. If you aren't having fun losing in ARAM, I suggest you play Summoner's Rift instead.

riot ignores all feedback. want proof? this game has been plagued with an AFK problem for years and it still is as rampant as ever. yesterday i have 5 games in a row; 4 of them we had an afk from the very start. ive never played madden a man down because EA cant get their shit together. riot creates an 'i dont care' atmosphere, punishes those who call out the actual people who ruin their game and permaban absolutely no one. to sum it all up, if riot doesnt care then why should the community? this is by far the worst community ive ever seen in a game or anywhere in life, id rather play with ISIS. word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising and i would never recommend anyone try this game. its pure frustration for veterans, i couldnt imagine what it is like for new players. i never have and never will spend a dime with riot. the afk problem makes this nearly unplayable.

Ultimately, only people who really desire to improve will listen to any advice you give them. There are plenty of people, especially in ARAM, who just play for fun, try to get a penta or scream YOLO/HAM constantly. I don't really know if that's the area to seek improvement. I voted "no" on the above poll because I normally don't try the compliment sandwich online. It's a bit lengthy and with the lack of desire for most people to improve, I don't commit my time.

Normally, all I do is say "You begged for top lane, you're 1-6-0 in the laning phase, so apologize." heh

It might be neat if instead of just reporting people, RIOT offered an area of "preset" comments you could click and thus suggest to an individual. If that individual cared they could review the comments, especially if they got built on a particular topic. Riot could even notify the individual if they are receiving a lot of the same comments, similar to their "You've been mean" (summarized) comment for abuse/trolling/... I use "preset" because it prevents the "Screw you bro, you're trash, delete your account." comments, which don't offer any improvement.

Tossing ideas.
