@Riot Have you guys considered any changes to autofill?

I was thinking if you have considered any changes to auto fill (and subsequently duo que)?

I have some suggestions, not sure how hard or easy to implement they are, but here goes something:

  • Both teams will have the same number of auto filled players, and on the same roles.
    • i.e. My team has the support and/or jungle auto filled, the enemy team has the support and/or support auto filled as well. Same for other roles.
  • Both teams will have the ones duo que on the same roles (this might be a bit harder to implement that the auto fill one)
    • i.e. My team has the bot lane duo, so the enemy team will have the bot lane duo.

I think the most problems with auto fill and duo que is how inconsistent they are across teams.

For example, say both teams have an auto fill, it sounds balanced at first, as it's 4 mains + 1 auto fill on both teams, but when you look deeper, my auto fill in support on, playing Janna, so he's fine, probably....hopefully....(am I asking too much?) while their auto fill is my enemy mid playing Azir for the first time because he heard some youtuber that Azir is OP. My support won't lose me that game, as Janna is simple and easy to play, but their Azir will lose them the game because of how complicated he is to master, and the player having no idea how to do thing. So even if, in a void, the teams were balanced, in detail, the game was imbalanced at it's finest.

But if both players were auto filled mid or support, it would be much more balanced, as the one with more skill will win, even if that skill is hitting Annie Q vs that same Azir in the previous example.

Same goes for duo que. Due to queing for 3 roles minimum and 4 roles max, it can be a huge discrepancy among teams, even if, again, in a void, it's balanced. Say it's 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 for both teams, but my duo que are the top and adc, while their duo que are the mid and jg. My lane can be extremely hard to barely manageable (depending on picks, say a Veigar mid with WW jg), as I can be camped and their duo que will have much more coordination than I can get with my jg (especially now thanks to in-game voice chat), if he even decides to try and help and not give a "noob mid, can't 1v2" (depending on elo) (Zac is still 0 - 0 - 0 at 20 mins, with less than 40 cs, but that's another story).

In my opinion, these 2 changes will remove many complaints about auto fill, and some problems with duo que, even if those are less important than the auto fill issues.

Thank you in advance for reading. Have fun, goof hard and the best of luck on the Plains of Eidolon....oopps, wrong game, I ment, the Fields of Justice.
