Mastery Level 6 and 7 (One Trick Ponies)
Some Background On Me Hello League of legends community, just as some background I am Max I've played league for a couple years (3 or 4 in total now) I have never really been a part of the league of legends boards before, but I would love to start this approach off well. I'd like to be able to voice my opinion in the game to hopefully improve the experience for all players as a whole. I love this game and I would love other people to love it as much as I do. I've also had to read through long pages of texts and I realize how grueling it can be so I'd like to separate this out so it's easier on people when they are reading it, while still keeping a professional tone.
The problem I have for a long time loved the idea behind "one trick ponies" although I am not able to fully commit to the idea because I don't think i have that commitment that those people do. I do have an alt that I like to play singed only on. With these last couple of updates I feel that league has been moving away from supporting this game-style, almost contradicting it.
Recently League has introduced hextech crafting while looking at this originally I thought it was a great idea. They are trying to help out the community by giving them a way to get free skins. League is one of the gaming companies that I accredit the most for not being money hungry, and really working for the people. This is exactly why I think that I have a chance of making a change here. The problem with this crafting is that it does bring forth a contradiction with "one trick ponies". You see you can only get one chest from a champion per month. Seemingly it's not that bad of an implication but for "one trick ponies" this puts them at a very hard decision. They must either break free from their commitment to playing only one champ or they have to wait an entire month to get these chests.
I found no problem with this at first I figured it's something that I can sacrifice in order to stick to this commitment, and I'm sure that's how a lot of people felt when they first saw that. However with this new mastery change I think that this is where the true problem lies. You need these mastery chests in order to get the higher levels of mastery. The entire point of playing that champion is to show the appreciation that you have for that champion, mastery levels came out as a perfect way for "one trick ponies" to show this appreciation. With this new crafting however it directly contradicts this. You could have to wait months in order to get the blue dust that you need to get mastery 6 or 7. You could easily get 100 S's in the time that it would take to get the blue dust and it would make no difference in your level. I don't mind having to wait, but this does seem a bit excessive to me. I feel like this mastery levels were made in order for you to celebrate a champion that you really have a passion for, which is exactly what the "one trick ponies" are trying to do.
That mastery level at the end of the day may just be some mark on a screen, but to one trick ponies it is something that shows appreciation to a champion, why make it harder for the people to get mastery on a champion, when they are the ones that really deserve it. I see this not as some failure on riot's parts but instead something that they can change in order to help improve the game.
Solutions
It would be unfair of me to present this idea without helping them come up with solutions, I would also like the communities solutions as well though if you men and women are willing to help out. These are just a few that I have thought of.
- Simply make it so that champs can get more than one chest from a champ per month (doesn't have to be unlimited, just higher)
- Make it so that after a certain number of S's with any given champ you get a champion shard so that you are able to get higher mastery with that instead
- Additional chests past that first chest per month could give you only champ shards so that although you can't spam skins you can get the blue dust that you need
- Change the mastery leveling so that it doesn't include hextech crafting ( I don't like this idea as much as the others but it is a solution)
- Disenchant mastery tokens into blue essence - Ray29x
Similar Problems
I have also seen a lot of people that don't like the rng involved in this mastery leveling I think that if you found a solution to this, then it would help a lot of people that have problems with that as well.
Final Note
First off I would like to thank anyone reading through this I know that it is a bit long winded. I hope that; whether you are a one trick pony, support what they do, or maybe you just agree that this won't influence you while making another section of the community happier then I would love for you to help out with this discussion, and show your support the this cause.
P.S.
If you are a one trick pony then I would love for you to put down the champ that you play down below for me its
