Ashe support and why people hate it

I have been playing an ashe support build which if the team works with me actually racks up a ton of kills for the adc or jungle. However what usually happens is that the adc player either rage quits in queue, or picks a support and demands I farm, or flames on me all game. Now I know the stock responses are going to be ashe is an adc play a support. But seriously people aren't you bored yet? She has amazing harass and stuns and a 50 sec cd on r lands so many kills. E for unlimited warding and vision. Why are people not open to trying something out of the box, it's like everyone has this one idea of how the game should be played and their brains break down when someone tries something different. I know it can work I've seen it in champion plays. Thoughts and no rage please.

People need to just let other people choose their own champions, regardless of whether or not it's off meta. I randomly got queued with an Ivern top last night, and everyone on the team but me was upset about it. He ended up being a VERY good AD Ivern that helped us pull off a pretty convincing win.

Let people enjoy things!

I understand you can make her work in the support role, but she's not a support. Yes her vision and CC is useful but she doesn't get reliable CC until level 6, and even then she lacks other good qualities that real supports have.

She can't heal, she can't shield, as mentioned above her only hard CC is single target only with a longer cooldown, she can't tank, she's very weak to poke, and her W will inadvertently push lanes or you'll accidentally CS if you don't aim it correctly.

Long story short, Ashe can work as a support but she's outclassed by every other champion and if you do lose lane, most people will blame you for that reason.

Edit: Forgot to mention: the only reason Ashe/MF support can work well in high ELO/LCS play is because they have such good communication and understandings of the game that they theoretically could make any champion work in any role. Even then, I still think real supports will always outclass her.

Idc if you play this kind of thing in norms. But if I'm in ranked, I'm going to be tilted at the outset of the game by my support locking in something like Ashe. You're immobile, you dont have good CC or peel, the first thing that's going to happen is they'll burn your flash and because you have no CC or means to divert a gank beyond a slow, we will be camped all game which will tilt me more.

Playing bot lane is about trying not to tilt your fellow laner if you can help it sometimes. So even if you arent good at support or ADC, pick a traditional, easy one in ranked and do your best.

cynical I:

  1. It´s too challenging to play with an off meta support, since they can´t go on autopilot like they could with a traditional support.
  2. Adcs hate impactful supports. If there was a support that was just an overpowered passive item for the carry, that would be an adc´s wet dream and you can observe this sentiment here on the boards too.

full ap supports (hated, "shouldn´t exist!" mimimi)

hybrids ( begrudgingly tolerated, "they are useless!")

**tanks **( preferred, "they still deal to much dmg though!")

enchanter ( loved, "now this is what a support is supposed to be!" )

So, not only is your support pick uncommon, but its gamplay is also not designed to inflate the adcs ego by showering him with stats or covering up his positioning mistakes, lack of map awareness etc. and for those two reasons most adcs won´t accept your pick, regardless of how effective it could be. They would rather fail to carry themselves than letting a dmg support carry them for once.

reasonable I:

It´s hard to make it work consistently and efficiently. As many others have already pointed out, there are obvious advantages but also glaring drawbacks when picking ashe sup, which makes it a lot more matchup dependent. You also delay your entire power curve, which is problematic since it means that you will have an even tougher time catching up than a regular adc when you lost lane.

All in all, I believe you can make it work. I played a lot of jhin, ashe and mf support (normals) and the results were surprisingly positive. But people will bitch no matter how well you do.

Support is a state of mind and a play style. Just like with anything it can have good and bad matchups. People get so used to not having to think that too many things dont get played enough.

Also this mentality people have is part of why supports get nerfed if they ever go to another lane like Ali top.
