I understand why damage/cooldowns are what is often buffed
It is easy to feel a straight up damage buff, especially on low cd or easy to land abilities, and even easier to start noticing that clutch ability is up way more often now.
What I don't understand is why damage and offensive cooldowns are what is buffed on champions who struggle not because they can't deal enough damage, but because time to kill is so low they don't get to utilize their play pattern and kit to its fullest.
Mundo is likely getting a numbers buff to his Q, and Cho a cooldown buff to his Q. I am not arguing that they don't need buffs, I'm not even arguing that these are the wrong types of buffs, I just want to have a discussion.
Champions like Mundo and Cho are supposed to excel in long-duration fights where they use their already very high base damage and survivability to outlast and outplay their opponent. They should not be healthwall assassins, and the damage they inflict should not resemble that at all. Again, I'm not saying this is what's happening right now, this buff, it's just a pair of champs and a situation that are perfect to open the discussion.
Why, instead of buffing their damage, can we not buff their hp pool, regen, resists, or literally any part of their survivability? A lot of bruisers and tanks are becoming more and more reliant on burst damage, and it is leaving some champs behind who cannot keep up. Hp and damage are all that matters right now, and resists are in the gutter. Nerfing aftershock will make it worse, and already hurting champs, I think, are going to get worse. Survivability for champs who don't scale from Lifesteal/Death's Dance needs to start being considered when buffs are on the table.
