Removing Stealth from Rengar's ult? (Rework idea)
Hi, below is just a rework idea and I'd really love some feedback for the idea and would like to know what the community thought about it. I tried to keep in mind what I personally wanted Rengar to be (a kitty stabby cat), and meshed it with what I thought Riot would want (a well balanced champion with fair counter play and blah blah blah). I also realize stealth is considered, by some Rengar mains particularly, a core part of his kit, but I believe it's what is making him problematic. I think a lot of issues would be resolved if we could just cut that out. This idea could also be very well a complete catastrophe so make sure you leave your feedback! Also I posted something very similar on the Rengar Revert post, but I wanted to make my own post about this idea for more direct feedback.
Passive: Never change the leap mechanic, it's great and is essential to who he is. Rewards to the bonetooth necklace need to change. Currently, I don't actually mind killing 5 different champions. I think it adds more than to the game than killing the adc 50000 times over. It forces me to think about the order to kill people before they hit power spikes and blah. The reward of % AD kinda sucks though, in terms of coolness, not actual effect (I do realize that 20% ad is fuckton and has a major effect on the game). I like the old rewards with like movement speed and longer jumps. Perhaps something really noticeable so it feels more rewarding would be better. You know how Khazix's ult feels really rewarding since his abilities are amped up to the max and visually changed, there's nothing wrong with applying that idea to Rengar. Maybe add back the movement speed out of combat but animations or something idk. Just bring back cooler rewards rather than just half assing it by giving him Zed's old W passive.
Q: The new Q sucks ass. However the old one was a little busted, a double q mechanic with an AD ratio that was an empowered AUTO with a chance of crit additive was begging for abuse (@Ryan Choi and many other rengar one tricks u know who u r lol). I'm not sure of a solution here, but I think you're moving in the right direction. One thing is the old Q felt really satisfying. I liked stabbing people. Like straight up stabbing them. The animation was great for the old Q. This new Q just doesn't do that, it's kinda slow (I know its to reduce the damage output), and it's more like a slice and dice rather than a STAB. If anything, bring back a way to stab things (remember the Riot Games youtube video where he stabs Darius? That was cool as fuck). ****If all else fails just revert the Q to the old one because I think with what I say ahead, it'll probably be relatively balanced anyway.
W: The W is just plainly fucking weird. His old W didn't really fit in this assassin style, and gave him a weird mechanic seemingly meant to make him a bruiser (which nobody wants him to be). Then the current W sorta applies the assassin concept but he kinda just runs out and cancels all CC and heals after killing his target which also isn't very rewarding as a Zed switching shadows or Khazix hopping out by the skin of his teeth. Idk. I realize his W is his escape but Rengar's escape just really kinda sucks. It's like half sustain and half escape; it's weird! Go all in on one idea, just make him an assassin, either blast his movement speed (like a quick cat!) or give him none at all and make it different. Not to mention AP Rengar is just really funny. Give him a new way to escape.
E: It's fine. Feels good to land, empowered E snare is cool too. QoL improvements are welcome.
R: Okay, I know this is really hard to do because stealth + instant gap close + high damage is nothing but bad news. Hear me out, I think we should remove or change the stealth and just give him the gap close. Give him the ability to scout the way he used to (vision off all enemy champs not just one), but give him either shitty stealth or none at all. Current scouting sucks a lot lol. Make that indicator of his presence a lot shorter or give him a global roar (s/o to Sion) or just flat out remove it. The current ultimate tells too early and Rengar can't catch people who are out of position without building several movement speed items. So basically just give him outrageous movement speed, like so fucking fast people's be doing how fast can this lion run to catch a target tests like they do with rammus (slower than rammus though lol) because I want to feel like I'm on the hunt. So basically his new ult will be his old one minus the stealth but he just runs really fast and he has way more vision of his opponents. I'll leave the indicator up to your discretion, if it's necessary than add it, if not then just remove it.
That's my 2 cents lol, I'm a Rengar one trick and I've played him since release and I've always watched him closely (recently I've haven't had much luck with the kitty cat. I'm too used to the old combo with Tiamat). Hope this was useful to Riot and I really hope someone'll read this.
