So the harsh and kind of unnecessary Rek'Sai nerfs have got me thinking
I've heard a decent amount of people saying that it's not a good decision for Riot to balance the game around competitive play because it has kind of a negative trickle down effect on the rest of us. I would personally disagree because the best of the best are going to discover the optimal way to play the game, so I understand why they do it, even if it irks me from time to time.
I think the real issue revolving around Rek'Sai is that she was clearly designed to shine in a competitive environment, and I think that's an issue that needs to be addressed, champions that are actually designed around competitive play. Right now the only two that are coming to mind are Rek'Sai and Azir, who I've noticed kind of trend with. If you look at when pros started picking them up again during this season, they weren't even particularly strong, but they offer so much to a competitive team that if they're even "meh" in terms of strength then they become pick or ban. That's what I mean by champions designed around competitive play, champions that offer too much to the competitive scene that they don't need to be the OP champions to become must haves on a team. Then of course, to see that champions cycle through and that the scene stays "fresh", Riot's going to nerf them, even if it seems like it's coming out of nowhere.
Anyway, that's just one trash player's take on it, just thought I'd post this, since it's something I've been thinking of for a while, but kind of came back to the surface once those nerfs went on PBE.
