Classes & Subclasses: Bruiser

Shortly after the Juggernaut update I made a thread asking why the term Juggernaut was used instead of a term that was already part of League. The response I got answered my question in the exact way I was hoping for, and I didn't really think anything of it. Riot wanted to avoid using terms that never had an official definition within League, and were often used in unclear and sometimes inconsistent ways.

Fast forward to season 8, and the champion class update seems to have dropped off the map. Champion classes are not really visible on the client, information about the update is relegated to the original announcements of the champion class update and the wiki, and even in a recent dev diary the word Bruiser was used when talking about a very small section of champions that are described by that word.

With the Competition & New Players video out Riot has a clear goal of assisting new players with learning the game. Are we going to see a return of the updated Class system? Having a clearly defined system of classes could really help new players learn, I know the old system helped me learn, but right now class information just isn't readily accessible.

EDIT: I'm well aware of what Bruiser refers to, and the differences between the three official classes that fit under the Bruiser term. Since this seems to need a TL:DR I'll add one here.

Is Riot going to actually use the class system they reworked?

I would say that the term "bruiser" is used (especially nowadays) as a blanket term to describe melee fighters in general. Champions like Camille, Xin, Jax etc. are called bruisers, while champions like Darius, and Illaoi are also called that on occasion (although they're on different ends of the fighter spectrum). Diana can be described as an AP bruiser herself.

If anything the "bruiser" classification is generally broken down into "Juggernauts" (being tanky immobile fighters that dish out large amounts of damage while being reasonably durable but not as durable as a pure tank) like Garen, Illaoi, Darius etc. and Divers who are semi mobile champions who tend to use their mobility to dive the enemy's back line. When they do so, they hard commit to fights and lack the mobility to escape but have defensive tools like shields to make to make them durable but not as much as a Juggernaut or tank.

actualy the term bruiser is both fighter classes and one part of the assassin class: Jugernauts, Divers and Skirmishers. Well skirmishers maybe less casue they build full damage while bruisers represent basicly off tanks so you could also use the term bruisers for the fighter classes. But juggernaut alones are not the bruiser class, champs like gnar, jax, camille, renekton etc belong to the bruiser class too.

Bruiser originated from the term "Off-tank" which were melee champions that built a mix of damage and defense, bruiser replaced this term because it made more sense.

adc, apc, tank, bruiser. tanks and bruisers can be ap or ad. adc and apc are generally glass cannons or lightly def. everything else is pointless name calling and makes balance harder

anyone who builds both damage and tank items

People really like to add more requirements for the category and make up their own versions because there isn't a clear definition for it other than what I stated.

Bruiser include melees that want to fight upfront and brawl. The three classes include; Skirmishers, fighters and juggernauts.

FIghters include just Fighters and Juggernauts.

The reason why Assassins are NOT Bruisers is because they lack the sustained DPS and defensive tools needed to be in a teamfight and successfully participate in them. There is an example, Assassin caught by a jugg is gonna die like a bitch, a skirmisher is gonna fight like a cornered rattlesnake. That is the difference between the two slayer classes, Both are all about having high damage and mobility but only Skirmisher use theirs in a teamfight while Assassins want to use it to get in and then get out.

It's mostly damage dealer's Health heavy build, which both Juggernauts and Divers can build.

If term Bruiser gets equal to Juggernaut, bad target access must be part of the definition, but Vi is a Diver and can build like a Bruiser.

And you cannot equalize Fighter with Bruiser because there are squishier Divers.

Riot said they would need to do some larger scale work to change everything in the client to the new class system, after all they would have to reclassify over 130 champs into their new roles, which doesn't sound to hard seeing as they know where they all fall but under the hood would take a lot of work. They still refer to the new classes when they talk about a specific champ, but outside of when they did the class updates, there hasn't been much call for them to use it much. Like a lot of things in league, its gonna have to be put off till Riot is in a better spot to update it fully.
