What happened to Orianna support?
So i played
Orianna support recently, and she is OP, yet I don't see many other Oriannas and have never seen an Orianna support. So why?

Some mages are too mana hungry to be played as support (Lux, Orianna)...
I play her mid, but I never see other orianna's :c https://youtu.be/xQ4LpoXI-_I?t=1m3s
So why?
Same general reason you don't see AD Thresh or AP Varus. Orianna is simply a better mid-lane champion than a support.
Her early game harass and wave clear are so phenomenal she winds up having near support-level utility while matching the end-game damage of a lot of mages soley focused on damage at the cost of utility.
Kind of hard to justify using her sub-optimally, even though she's a strong enough champion she's not a wrong choice for support.
she has a high skill cap for playing as a support. I mean she has a high skill cap in general but much higher as a support as your damage output is less so you need to be on point about when to use your skills and wind up passive otherwise your output as a support will be far too little to make you significant. She needs to be able to deal damage to be relevant in lane as a support since she has no real hard cc other than her ult which doesn't really stop them from attacking her adc. I still play her as a support from time to time but I generally like using Lulu better. Lulu essentially does the same things she does but better. Lulu has a speed boost/Hard CC, Q poke that also slows and deals more damage, Shield that can damage or protect and an Ult that protects, Knocks up AND slows nearby enemies.
There are better champions you can play.
and
can easily offer the same amount of peel and protect that Ori support could. Ori also uses a lot of mana and to be really effective, she needs a lot of gold. Also her shield offers nothing besides some armor/mr(if ball is on them I think) whereas Lulu/Janna shield augments the person who is shielded AA. Ori's ultimate CAN be game changing, but I only really seeing it be game changing BECAUSE it has the damage behind it, without it it doesn't really offer much. Also she has a high skill cap.
She has the same shield size as janna, but Janna gives free movespeed, a knockup, a slow, a displacement, and a heal. Main difference beyond that is that Orianna is giving a little armor and MR while Janna is giving flat AD.
No good reason to pick her over Janna.
Lulu is far superior as a support as well. Twice as much utility in her kit than Orianna.
people dont understand her so they dislike her....
her shield is amazing, her ball completely removes facechecking bushes.... i say play it and dont listen to the haters.... max shield first
hooked, gg
dashed, gg
knocked-up, gg
locked down, gg
blown up, gg
Conclusion: She is too underrated to be considered "support".
same thing that happened to
support...
because she' not tanky or a healer and her burst damage requires a lot of mana(as the other posts say)
makes a better support with constant harrass, a distancing attack, long ranged stun and a large aoe slow
reasons why they're not supports, they play other roles much better and can't farm efficiently
