Did that Thresh hook really hit me? What do you think?

I would say that hook should not have hit but what do you think? ^_^

It's one of the strange things about hooks. Riot mentioned that at Max range hooks kinda have a ball effect. So it's a thin line when flying through the air, and then a bigger ball at the end. With that in mind, yeah, it hit you. Should it have hit you, I don't think it should but that's how it's scripted.

It's the same reason that Blitzcrank and Thresh can hook you behind minions some times.

Were you carrying a magnet?

By the looks of it, you got creepblocked, which meant your hitbox was still within range.

Or we could reduce thresh "Lolipop" radius at the end of the Q animation

I think what happens a lot with weird hooks like this tends to be one of two things.

  1. [stated by riot] many line skillshots are lollypops, as in -----o ... kinda like zoe's E, but instant

  2. I suspect that the character models give more than the hitboxes. So as you run into minions, your character model will tend to overlap them significantly, (i.e. your model is almost completely overlapping that creep) but your hitboxes likely either don't overlap at all or meet somewhere in the middle.

So in effect, if that observation is correct, then running into creeps makes hitboxes feel extremely less consistent.

There should be a game: "did this hook hit?"

People submit pictures, and everyone else has to guess whether it hit or not. It could go both ways.

I am pretty sure the OP is more concerned about " do you think the hook should have hit me?", instead of what the people are solely answering " did the hook hit me or not?". Eventhough from the title it looks as if OP is trying to ask for the latter but the OP wants to know both bits of information. Yes, it could be the lolipop effect because of which the hook connected, but no matter how i look at it, this makes dodging very awkward and difficult. I would personally prefer for this feature to be gotten rid off. Also no matter how long i stare at the video, the hook should not have hit OP eventhough the lolipop effect is or maybe is an intentional coding effect. Its way too far off and riot needs to fix this, its not like i've not personally come across weird hooks connecting and clearly denying that riot has some cleaning left to do in this area is most definitely bias or someone just not feeling well.

There was a video about this long ago, basically the camera we view the game from is at a slant, not flat, so things are distorted to match the camera but sometimes that distortion actually hurts us.

Its a shitty design that allows for more rng into the game. Why you think i keep leaving games when they got Taric? His E hits at least 75 units outside the indicator.

This is my biggest issue with league, hitboxes and that small little delay that makes ali somehow knock you up when you're mid E as ez. Or that Melee attack killing you after you flashed.

Lios Ashenblade2/2/2018, 3:39:38 PM1 votes

It hit your clothing which is pretty bs, but thats the edges of your character model, I had a blits book me through a Braums shield the other day tho, so those super accurate high precision hit boxes are on point

Exploit or glitch? I looked this morning and have found exploits for stuff like this for sale on many of the hacking sites. So I guess that would be up to Riot to decide.

FurriesAreHot2/2/2018, 4:30:40 PM1 votes

This was likely lag compensation doing what it does: sometimes overcompensating.

When the skillshot reaches its end, it quickly searched the outer edge for anything it considers valid target. Was your ping in this game notably high? such as 120?

JarodDempsey2/2/2018, 9:04:16 PM1 votes

clearly missed. Riot has poor coding and just terribad physics in general. Thresh hook is pretty notorious for have very random hitbox at times as well. They should really fix it but they dont.

Skorch2/2/2018, 6:16:29 AM1 votes

I understand it. Its pretty simple actually. A champions hitbox is much larger than a minions, even if its a smaller champion that looks thin.

The weirdest hitboxes are the ones where the tip of the hook (even without the lollipop effect) barely graze the edge of a, for instance, Jinx hitbox. Jinx has one of the smallest models in game that isnt a yordle, but her hitbox probably is very similar to other ADCs.

So, as a mastery 7 blitzcrank, mastery 6 morgana, mastery 5 nautilus, and garbage thresh. I can see exactly how that hook hit you.
