@Riot - Can you consider allowing us to reset MMR?

Naristracrates·5/8/2017, 9:39:04 AM·6 votes·1,462 views

I started playing this game years ago. When I started ranked, I should not of ranked. That is my fault. I have spent years, and I cannot climb out of bronze. I could go into the specifics, but there is some serious elo hell.

Regardless, why can't we reset our MMR at the beginning of a season? I am starting to think that Riot actually likes elo hell, because it promotes the making of other accounts, which will eventually spend money on that account.

I have sweat and shed tears on this account, I don't want to start all over again. Riot, if you want to charge for this service, I would be willing to pay.

Thank you.

Elo hell both exists to an extent, but at the same time it really doesn't. Part of what makes Bronze 5 such a pain in the ass is a problem with ranked in general, at least especially so in NA. That problem being many low elo players' attitudes towards ranked games. As someone who's been in Bronze 5 previously for years I can attest that the majority of players treat ranked like normals.

One glaring example of this is how frequently your teammates will play champions they don't even main. Mastery level isn't everything and is most certainly not to be mistaken as an indicator that someone is godlike with a particular champ. However, mastery level is nice for at least providing a far more likelihood of someone's basic understanding of the champ they are playing. If you have mastery level 7 on Ashe you may still have the mechanics of a boosted bonobo, but you probably at least have read Ashe's abilities and have some general idea of what she does, where she shines, and what matchups are more difficult for her even though you get only 50 cs by 10 mins.

I've asked people why they do this and the general answer seems to be simply "boredom". Players get bored of playing/spamming the same champs over and over to climb. My rebuttal: Why not play a few normals or ARAMs and come back to ranked later then? Or go learn and master a new champion for ranked?

Aside from that part of the issue there's just that general attitude amongst players in NA of simply not trying their best. What makes lower Bronze hell sometimes is just the attitude many players bring where they play ranked, but to them it's just normals. To them, winning doesn't matter, for various reasons. Since they don't 'want' to get out of Bronze all that badly they simply don't bring their best, or at least try to.

All that being said, I have climbed out of Bronze 5/Bronze 4 myself. And hopefully soon I can get out of Bronze 1 into Silver. So I do also understand "get good". Elo hell isn't an excuse for simply not having the skills it takes to play at Gold or Plat level. However, my main point here is that while "get good" is true it's a bit of an over generalization that doesn't accurately account that low Bronze NA has some 'unique' difficulties to overcome beyond just mechanics and game knowledge.

You can absolutely get out of Bronze. But it can sometimes, not always, be uniquely difficult to do so.

If you can't get out of bronze by carrying the noob-teammates, I doubt that you will perform well in silver. (No offence) Giving all players a complete reset will result in you being matched with/against maybe even diamond players. That won't be fun for you or the new lvl 30s who queue up for ranked for the first time at the begin of a new season. If you allow the players do decide wether they reset their mmr at the begin of a new season, all the players below the average mmr will reset and the players above will not, so that all in all the average mmr shifts and that will result in you having displayed a higher rank (silver) but still being matched with the same players. It would just abolish bronze and all the bronze players would be low silver and all current silver players would be high silver.

What i wrote might be confusing but I don't think this is a good suggestion.

I started at bronze 3 two times in two different season beginnings. 1st time I went to Silver I and downgraded to II later on.

2nd time I reached Gold V, which is where I am now...

"But gold is still elo hell"

From bronze III to Gold...

I think you're using that as an excuse, every game you should get the sense of what you could've done better. "I PLAY PURFECT" you deserve bronze then.

While I do think having a refresh token would be amazing, I also can see small issues with it. But then again, I could be wrong.

Although on a side note, I don't think elo hell really exists.

I haven't really had a issue playing ranked once they got rid of 5 man teams in solo que (Thank you god, Riot. Thank you..)

Although I usually vs Plat 4-Gold 1's although I'm Gold 5 haha, what the hell?

Every season does include a soft MMR reset which pulls everyone to the middle of the range before letting them spread out again. Certainly it is hard to climb sometimes in low ranks due to inconsistent performance by teammates (after I went 2-8 in my placements it took my 4 times as long to climb from Silver 3 to Silver 2 as it did from Silver 2 to Gold 4) but in the long run statistics almost always play out and elo hell is largely a myth. If you are willing to spend some money I would recommend getting some coaching, even from Gold or Plat players, since having someone go over your games (losing ones are always better to get reviews of) can let you see areas of improvement and ways to take advantage of your current strengths and skills better.

If you have been stuck in bronze for this long, resetting your MMR won't change anything.

If you can't climb yourself out of there, which is a hella lot easier than silver, you don't belong there.

Hard, but an honest truth.

Pretty sure you can reset MMR by switching to another region then switching back. If you're that desperate.

First step is to just acknowledge the fact that you suck and second step is to objectively look at what you are doing wrong and what you should do to improve. Read guides, watch tips and trick on youtube etc.

I think everyone has a valid point.

Please consider, people in bronze 5 who still get negative LP in loss/wins. It is almost impossible for them to climb. And again it would be unfair to just place them all higher.

Maybe a reset that just puts your LP gains at a fair level. Or maybe just in Bronze 5/4 you always gain more than you lose. This won't solve the major issue of being with poor teammates though.

These are all valid points, but I just want to say there is an elo hell. There are some people that have absolutely no idea what they are doing and shouldn't play ranked. But again there are good points.
