Separate ranks for solo and duo

Apologies if there's an existing post but out of curiosity is there a reason why solo/duo rank is shared? I personally find it more impressive when I see high level players who got themselves there. I know this is a 'team' game but it's still possible to carry yourself. With solo/duo shared it's difficult to figure out who's actually good at the game and who's just boosted.
