Jungle main needs early level advice

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I generally find I briefly lag behind other junglers in a level. Often hitting 6 after them. Perhaps my issue is I often get Gromp, Blue, then heal on Skuttle which takes longer than I feel the experience warrants. However, when I do take that route, my general power play is to steal the enemy team red. Almost always successfully. If they likely started red, and I forego Skuttle and head to wolves I still find I somehow lag behind. I do try to gank at level 3, almost always. Any suggestiongs? Any information you need to help, just ask.

Thanks,

SirOrange

it really depends on the champion you play, you can have a good clear time and still be behind, or you can have great sustain and clear slower. I think your main issue isn't your pathing, its your possible use of summoners and items. alittle more info besides your jungle path is needed to help you, things include your starting items (along with quantity in the case of starting pots) your preferred champions (top 3 at least), your normal ganking level (where you either drive the enemy back or secure a kill without dieing or getting below 25% hp) these things will let anyone else provide more useful information and help with the road to 6.

however your are slightly more advanced than myself because I have a hard time counter jungleing and normally only do so when I see a clear advantage against my jungle opponent but ill be more than glad to share any knowledge I can with you

There are generally 2 ways to hit lvl 6 quickly.

  1. Farm..Farm and Farm, thats your jungle and covering waves for your lanes (usually mid in my experience since they tend to back the most frequently given how close the turret and fountain are.

  2. Farm hard, but gank 1 or 2 times, and get a kill out of it. This is generally the route i go for, i prioritize farming but if i can run into a lane and grab a kill, it generally spikes my XP pretty hard.

If you are getting lvl 6 between 6-7:30 you're doing fine.. anything later than that and you're probably doing something inefficient.

Generally the idea is that you should start at red with any jungler if you know how to conserve mana. It should go Krugs > Red > Gromp > recall or stay based on the champs sustain > Blue > Ganks. I use this and it generally puts me in a spot where I have double buffs and can spam some mana while still keeping ahead of my jungler. This only works for some of the more dps or tankier champs who can clear without much problems, unlike Yi. On the other hand, its not that getting behind is a big problem, if you notice that your enemy jungler has lvl 6 before you, check the leader boards. If he has more cs than that means you should focus on farming the jungle more. To a certain point you should be trying to stay equal if your opposing jungler is very aggressive (Rengar, Lee, etc). Your goal before anything else is shutting down your enemy jungler in my opinion. Hope this helps a bit.

After reviewing your recent games, there are a couple things I noticed.

  1. You almost always run summoner 6 on champions ranging from Volibear to Vi. Ghost is useful and even op on certain champions. But summoner 4 is strictly better ion most situations, especially on those two champs.

  2. Sometimes it's better to start red side for the krugs stun or the smite heal off of red. The healthiest possible jungle path is to go krugs then chickens then red and to use you 2nd smite on red. This is good if you are planning on ganking immediately at lvl 3 and/or are afraid of being lvl 2 invaded.

Thanks for this. I have found that helps a lot with jungle clear, and feel capable of hitting 6 somewhere around the 7 minute mark. I have to readjust the way I time red buff for ganks but this seems to be the way to go for a faster 6. I like to use ghost for the dramatically less cooldown, although I miss the hell out of flash at least once a game. Still not quite sure where I'll end up on it, will likely still use ghost on occasion but perhaps more dependent on the other team. Burning a flash when your team doesn't follow through hurts for a couple minutes longer than burning a ghost.

The fact you don't mention what jungler you were playing says a lot about your jungling.

This has been my greatest change as I have become steadily more successful. I do what's best, not what they necessarily want. I can't tell you how many times I have had an adc force a low adc under their turret and ask for a gank at a low level. I can be completely on the other side of the map but still be a (excuse the language), "shit jungler" if I don't stop the jungle camp I'm on and head straight there.

I prioritize farming the jungle between ganks unless since it is a reliable source of gold and experience. While I'll gank lanes whenever I see a good opportunity, I'd rather farm camps rather than attempt to force ganks (since they can backfire horribly when forced) to prevent myself from falling behind.

Even if you aren't ganking lanes, there are many ways you can make your presence felt across the map. Some examples include:

  • Holding a lane when an ally is dead, based or roaming (to prevent experience from being wasted and deny the enemy laner)
  • Invading the enemy jungler (stealing their camps, warding their jungle, killing them)
  • Controlling vision/placing wards, killing wards) around lanes and objectives
  • Ganking
  • Counterganking

If you know what you are doing, you have a lot of options available to you.

Quite frankly, you just have to know what the best action to take is if you want to win the game. If you believe it is the best option, there is nothing wrong with just ignoring your laner (which, while not generally the case, can occasionally be the correct decision).

Try to figure out which of your allies can be trusted (i.e. high CS, low deaths, appear to be playing competently) and help them out.
