Only viable reason for the random nerfs to mages i can come up with is

The upcoming mage rework It wasn't set in stone but with all these random nerfs maybe Riot is tuning down their power in advance of new item/ item reworks. And perhaps new masteries. Or to up the power in other abilities with new changes.
