I started playing Dota 2 and...

I feel bad about the fact that I've played so many games of League.

I just see no reason to play League over Dota 2. In fact the only reasons why I play League over Dota 2 are absolutely non-gameplay related. I play League because :

  1. I have way more time spent on it than I do on Dota 2 and I don't want to start another game from scratch.
  2. All of my friends play League.
  3. I like the LCS teams (not worlds) That's basically it.

Gameplay wise, I feel like LoL is ages behind and I mean it. Not only does Dota 2 give you all the heroes for free, but whenever you pick one of them, you never feel useless or like you can't do anything. All the roles are fun, well balanced and the comebacks actually happen, no matter how far behind in gold you are.

League in the other hand is completely the opposite, because there are champions that absolutely outclass other champions, champs with ridiculously overloaded kits to the point where making a huge mistake might not even make a difference, comebacks hardly ever happen, and the meta is so restricted that people actually dodge if you don't follow it. Support is the most boring thing to play, because even if you do get that 5 man pulverize, if your team has fed, you'll still lose the tf.

Dota 2 now has custom games, which you can play whenever you want to, while riot removes their featured game modes 2 weeks after releasing them.

Dota allows you to leave if someone else has left the game so that you don't waste precious minutes of your life in a hopeless match. Also Valve actually knows what balance is and doesn't fuck things up like riot does with every new champ they release.

It looks to me like LoL has too many flaws in comparison to its pros, as much as I feel sorry for everyone who spends several hours on the game grinding and what not. Note that I'll continue to play League, because all my friends play it, so this is not a biased opinion. I haven't even played dota 2 for more than 10 hours, while I've spent a lot of time on League.

TL;DR In my opinion Dota 2 is superior to League in every single way and I don't know why anyone would pick League over Dota 2.

No problem with playing the one you prefer. Playing the one you like more is just common sense.

the biggest point here is that some champs outclass others in their respective roles.

Exactly 100% true. Couldn't have said this better myself.

I have played a lot of both games(2000+ hours on both) and I really really like Dota better, but just like you, all of my friend play league. I dont like playing games by myself.

I see some comments about supporting in League vs Dota, I love supporting in Dota. While I also enjoy carrying, I find supporting fun. Warding actually feels useful and I can pretty much build whatever I feel like. In league I HAVE to get a sightstone and the wards last for such a short amount of time. I have to build certain items I HAVE to pretty much never get any damage. I really hate supporting in league because of that.

In Dota you can tri lane, duo lane, or have a jungler/roamer. In League its always 1,1,2 + jungle. I tried a tri lane in league once and it worked really well, except for the fact that we had no smite. I feel like the meta is too enforced in league.

And why people would choose league over Dota: They are different games and they work differently, I fully understand why some people would choose League over Dota.

My one friend for example tried Dota, lost the first game he played and was like "WTF this game sucks" pretty much just because he played it like league and lost.

Well, I do agree to the every-hero-unlocked part. I wish League had something similar. Your other points are too subjective, we are talking about two different games here which shouldn't be compared just because of the same genre.

Dota 2 supporting....fun!? That was the reason why I switched over to LoL from DotA 2... Your dmg is better early game, falls off late game, and U end up spending a HUGE portion of ur minimal gold income on the DotA equivalent of consumables (wards, smoke, sentries, dust).

btw Value does have balance issues from time to time. They recently had to nerf glimmer cape for the 3rd time cause of how stupid good and cost effective it is (the wiki changelog doesn't mention how it used to have a mana cost, making it broken on non INT heroes).

The grind for levels, heroes, and runes in LoL gave meh a sense of progress (though this is coming from someone who spend hours and hours playing MMORPGs).

DOTA 2 is less fun overall, in my opinion. Having played both games, DOTA 2 is far more DIFFICULT than League in terms of mechanics (you need to learn about things like denying, creep pulling, jungle camp stacking), the warding system is practically abusive towards supports (since supports need to spend their gold on wards every few minutes--no sightstone equivalent, and wards are a limited commodity).

The issues with gold are further exacerbated by the fact that when you die in dota 2, you lose gold. Your premise that you can't feel useless is a bit subjective, in my view. Play a few games where the enemy team has a fed drow ranger/riki/sniper/pudge, and there are moments where you feel entirely powerless. For all the people who take issue with the snowballing in league, snowballing in dota 2 is even worse, because dying doesn't just cost you time, it costs you GOLD, essentially meaning mistakes are punished twofold. This fact makes support lives even harder--they have no gold income items. None. And you're yelled at just as much for taking any farm in game. Meaning supports have far less access to gold, are punished harder for dying, and have to purchase FAR more consumable items than in league.

Magi don't scale nearly as well in league--their point is to be powerful early game, and then fall off as it progresses (with a few exceptions). There's also an item in dota 2 known as the black king bar, which grants magic immunity--essentially rendering magi useless for its duration.

Additionally, there's a far greater burden in terms of champ knowledge, and having a random group has way more potential issues. There are more stealth-based champs in DOTA 2 than in league, and there are three counters to those champs--sentry wards, dust of appearance, or a gem of true sight--all of which cost a good chunk of gold (which is again, harder to access if said stealth champion is snowballing out of control). There's also an item that GRANTS stealth, which is usually picked up by carries like drow ranger and sniper (who can already be frustrating to play against). Now, there is counterplay to these stealth champs--but only if your team buys the required items. If they don't, then the stealth champs can abuse the everliving hell out of the lack of coordination. And since there's no surrender option, you're generally forced to stay in the game trying to mount a defense--and while sometimes there are comebacks that wouldn't happen if surrender was a thing, there are also plenty of games where you're practically held captive for 40 minutes to an hour. Say what you will about the snowball-y game of the state currently, but there are games in DOTA 2 where I legitimately felt HOPELESS for extended periods of time.

Is DOTA 2 a bad game? I don't think so. I think it has a higher burden of skill, knowledge, and punishes mistakes far more than league does. That's a good thing for some people. But overall, I find league more fun BECAUSE I don't need to worry about denying minions, pulling the wave back into a stacked jungle camp, or wasting all of my money on dust of appearance because the enemy riki is fed to hell, and my team won't buy any.

...as an aside, I also like the role of jungler far more in league. In DOTA 2, the jungle feels...incidental. There are random monsters everywhere, but they don't have much flavor. The jungle experience in league is far more unique, and well defined. there are DOTA 2 games where there's just no jungler at all, and the only purpose the camps serve is to give the ADC a bit more farm, or used to pull back pushing lanes as I mentioned before. The jungle is functional, but it feels..More incidental. League makes the jungle feel like an actual important part/aspect of the map.

Also, if you think split-pushing shaco is obnoxious in league? Try dealing with Nature's prophet in dota 2. Or tinker. Shudders from the nightmares
