League of Legends is in an incredible spot right now.

League is probably the most fun it's ever been in a long time. The game is more fast paced, team fights are out of control, frame rates dropping below zero. Everything is intense and games are crazy.

But let's look at how the game has truly changed in a span of a single patch.

Assassin update...

I honestly have to laugh at everyone talking about how op all the updates are when the truth is.

NONE OF THE CHAMPIONS ARE HONESTLY BROKEN BESIDES LEBLANC.

Talon does less burst damage than before, actually, he just does less damage overall haha, but at least he has more mobility! Passive is a bleed gimick.

Katarina has less burst damage but more mobility. Blade gimicks.

LeBlanc has more waveclear and flexibility but still has weak late game. Passive gimick.

Rengar has more utility, less spammy, still the same champion but with a QSS and better snowball. Bonetooth snowball gimick.

Fizz honestly had really nice buffs in that his mana costs were heavily reduced for the laning phase when maxing E, which is what AP Fizz does anyways. Bleed and OH MY GOD THAT SHARK IS HUGE gimicks.

Akali has more burst but shorter cooldowns, overall she's the same champion and people already played her in high elo, and they'll still play her. She's as healthy as any assassin can possibly be.

Zed overall nerfed. Still good and really nice late game potential with lethality and reduced CD on his shadow slash being really nice.

Kha 'Zix and LeBlanc are the only champions that got really big buffs to their kit overall, however, Kha'zix has an awkward time in a farm jungle meta. He's still mega snowbally but the current jungle meta does not favor his kind yet.

Ekko basically receiving the same changes that he's been getting since tank Ekko was introduced. More AP scaling, less base utility.

Shaco????? Question mark ping???

I find it funny that people think that the problem is how broken each of these champions are in the early game. The truth is, they're all relatively the same and their only means of winning the early game is by cheesing and getting up close to you because you let them, quite literally the same as before. LeBlanc is an exception because she always had an oppressive amount of burst and utility in the early game, however, the insane buff to her wave clear is what's making her so strong right now.

I also find it hilarious that people are saying Lethality sucks when in reality, duskblade has more armor pen when your opponent is higher than lvl 8. The only real nerf that Lethality indirectly caused to armor pen reliant champions was Youmuu's staying as 20 Lethality and not giving 40% attack speed anymore. Lethality scales really fast when you start getting items in the mid - late game.

tl;dr Assassin update DID NOT CHANGE THE META WHATSOEVER, it simply changed how these champions were played.

Now let's look at the variety of champions in higher level solo queue. Riven / Rumble / Jayce / Yasuo / Nidalee / Hecarim / Graves / Nunu/ Olaf / Zac / Lee Sin / Syndra / Ryze / LeBlanc / Jhin These 15 champions are featured in almost every single high elo game above Diamond 1. Everyone in high elo has pretty much reached a consensus that Jayce, Yasuo, Nidalee, Hecarim, Graves, Syndra, Ryze, LeBlanc, are absolutely broken. Now of course there will always be a strong champion in any meta because there will always be a weaker champion. The problem is that Riot isn't trying to create a solution, they're simply delaying it and making it worse. Their "solution" is to implement a 10 ban system.

In the short term this is fine, you get to eliminate 10 champions you don't want in the game, Jayce, Yasuo, Nidalee, Hecarim, Graves, Syndra, Ryze, LeBlanc, have basically been deleted from high elo solo queue. Riven and Olaf being the likely other two bans.

Does everyone really think this is okay? If the goal is to create more champion diversity then the solution is to remove 10 champions from the competitive pool?

The problem isn't that Riot made this huge mistake that will completely destroy the game, no no no. The problem is that they did a nice slow build up over an entire season 6, the game was at a point where you could tell the difference between teams at the highest play. Teams like Samsung being known for their insane macro play and game knowledge and ability to secure wins through late game domination. Rox being known for their wildness and mechanical play that let them rip teams to shreds from the beginning. SKT, a team that's able to perform under the weight of so much pressure without breaking. Season 6 was truly a magnificent thing. Suddenly, Riot throws the preseason grenade and it explodes in our faces and we're forced to pick up the shrapnel. Yes this is their best option, yes, by making the game fresh and new they are able to keep the game going and ultimately continue prolonging it's player base. The problem I have is that it seems like they've given up...

I have no qualms with preseason and how Riot changes champions, items, jungle, turrets, minions, whatever. This is something that needs to constantly happen in order to constantly improve the game which is what made League what it is today.

Implementing a 10 ban system is just not the way to go.

A 10 ban system is a death sentence to 10 champions rather than keeping them in the pool and giving Riot a chance to improve the game. It seems like having 10 bans will give the dev's more time to update and fix the problems that certain champions have, the truth is, this will just make the game worse for people to play. Imagine what will happen when the 10 ban system causes champions like Riven and Rengar to be permanently banned. Are the people who main them just forced to adapt and play other champions, or worse, smurf in elo's where their champions are banned less. ( I know people that already do this, including me ) and make the lower end of League of Legends rankings even worse until those champions get banned in low elo too? I just can't see why people think this 10 ban system is going to help League of Legends at all when it's one of those things that in theory sounds nice, but in practice will be detrimental to the game overall. On one hand, this small decision that was made so early in the season might improve the competitive scene and make it more interesting to watch, but on the other, this small decision was made way too early in the season and will hurt the casual aspect of the game.

I'm done.

tl;dr Assassin update didn't really change meta at all besides better scaling, itemization, and LeBlanc / Kha'zix got good buffs. 10 ban system = band aid solution that might improve competitive scene, but it defeats the purpose of League catering to more casual aspects of the game during the early-mid season.
