Dreams of Sion
At night I toss, and turn thinking about a love I lost so many years ago. AP Sion.
Suffice to say, Sion doesn't really need any buffs right now, and he's very much a different champion today, than he was 4 years ago, but theres one thing that remains constant. His W shield, though it was changed to deal percentage damage in exchange for its high AP ratio(90% back in the day, compared to 40% now) is roughly the same spell, but with a different scenario of usage. It's good at bullying tanks, more than bursting a priority target down.
So let me lay my intention bare. Increase the AP scaling damage on his W. With the recent change to his E increasing AP scaling from 40% to 55% it feels like a step closer to the giant undead wizard warriors final form. Too much attention has been diverted to his Q, and his E over the patches, but one thing remains as underwhelming as it has been since Sion's rework. His drive-bys.
Certainly I don't expect or really want to see the AP ratios match exactly what they were back in the day, as 90% on spammable abilities is quite unfun to play against in lane, but with the exception of an early dorans ring, AP items on Sion is an abstract concept. I've been given hope, by the Shyvana and Zac changes as of late, that hoped to improve the quality of life for AP variants of those champions.
My ideas for implementation include: -Generic AP ratio increase. 40% to 55% much like his E in 8.10. Tank and AD Sions won't notice this buff at all. -Drop the hp% damage in exchange for a much higher ratio. This change would hurt AD and Tank Sions a lot, as 10-14% of an enemy's max health is a massive deal for a brief, easy trade. Tank Sion wouldn't be as good in lane against other tanks, and AD sion would lose some significant free damage assuming the shield doesn't break, and AP Sions would be stronger against squishier targets. -Add AP scaling the the hp% damage. Much like the generic ratio increase, this change wouldn't be felt by tank or ad sions, but would make an AP Sion have a higher impact against tanks.
His W as a damage dealing spell in general is inconsistent at best, so I don't see any of the above being game-breaking or what-not, but maybe I missed something. I know the game isn't really like what it was when Sion was a young lad, but hopefully one day AP Sion will come back in almost all his glory.
