Can someone explain to me the strength of Aurelion Sol?

So i love control mages, there basically all i play. A few years ago i mained Karthus, that being said i feel like positioning and knowing how to team fight w/ immobile champions is not the problem for me when it comes to Aurelion Sol.

I often roam as much as possible abusing his e and almost always get good ganks off, getting me or my team kills.

But i always feel so weak for my current kda after about 25 + mins in. If im fed i always feel like i'd be SO much stronger if i was playing a different champion (like Orianna or something) with the same KDA

I feel like its mainly not the way i play the champ (but it 100% could be) thats the problem for me.

I see the champ played alot in high elo. So i want to know, what else is there to the champion, that im not getting, that makes him so strong? (btw i often build rylies into hextech-GLX. often buying a banchies at some point.)

Sol is a champion that gets better the better you are at positioning and having a team that coordinates around you automatically. That and Rylai's. In LCS where the team has been practicing around Sol all the time they're essentially creating zones of control where everyone who enters takes good damage over time and are slowed. Which is a massive advantage for a team that can use and abuse that power.

But for your normal scrubs like me, where the team doesn't coordinate enough to abuse the slows and damage he's fairly average a champion I think. His winrate certainly plummets as soon as you get below Platinum.

The thing that makes him really strong is his W early on. He can outpush anyone and use that lane preasre to roam with his E. What you want with aurelion is useing the early preasure to impact the map and snowball. Once his team is ahead, he really is good for both splitpushing and siegeing. Shoveing his Q down a lane can zone opponents away from a tower for a few sec, allowing your team to deal alot damage on it basically for free. His aoe potential in teamfights also is quite high, but not as explosive as orianna or such.

Basically, yes, with same kda, orianna or karthus would be stronger mid-late, but his early roams are way more potent than theirs.

AuS trades off "power" for the ability to Roam better than his opponent in the early-mid game and DPS better than his opponent in the late game.

The other guy, all other factors being equal, is supposed to be stronger than you. But the map pressure you're putting on the rest of his team makes you win.

I.E. you're a non teleporting version of TF.
