Why do people prefer trolls and AFKS over ragers?

People are OK with someone intentionally ruining a match but "ragers" who are fed up with someone not pulling their weight in a match after telling them politely what to do are deemed a far worse. Why does this happen?

Edit: stop putting words in my mouth people. Nowhere in this post did I mention off meta picks as trolling? I didn't because I don't see off meta picks as trolling.

Because an afker is like slowly ripping off a bandaid and inspecting the damage, while a rager is like poking a festering wound with a flail.

One is mildly painful and then you go "oh well; let's fft at 20". The second slowly and continually ruins the game for your entire team while almost always guaranteeing a loss anyways. Just... well more miserable of a one. I would rather someone quit and the damage be done (I've even come back from this) than have someone yell at their teammates for 40 minutes.

As for trolling, it depends on your definition. If you mean intentional feeding or raging, then yes, that's just as bad and people won't excuse it. In fact, people get pissed and rage at them most games. I fail to see how this is "being let by" here.

If you mean an off meta pick where they still plan to do their best but the asshat from some other lane won't stop raging the entire game (and thus ruins the game for your entire team), then I don't consider that to be trolling. Just the person getting mad at their pick ruining the game instead. Usually while the off meta pick actually does well in lane.

I'd rather have an afk / troll than listen to somebody whine all game.

When looking at negative behavior I'd rather have neither. It's like asking "Do you want a serial rapist or a bank robber?" - neither. Toxic players lower the morale of everyone at the team intentionally and deliberately, whereas an AFK could be a power outage, their PC might've exploded, or their child just slipped and fell and they are in parent mode.

Mute button is there when toxicity gets to the point of no return and you are stating "I'd rather have poor team communication than listen to this person". In my last game we had an ADC that fed at 2:11 I think and flamed their support for them getting caught, stunned, and not flashing out - mute a player less than 3 minutes into a game? No. He continued to flame the entire time, we still had a winnable game, but he wouldn't stop and just lowered the morale of everyone to the point that no one cared. But you think afk's are a larger problem? Disagree.

Because Riot has catered their game to weak willed, sissy children and exacerbated the issue. People think they are too special to ever be called out on their mistakes, it hurts their fragile self esteem.

Just go look at the not one, but two trending posts about reporting every players that says "ez". This community would take every game being 1v5 before they would ever want to be called a feeder when they were 0/10/0.

It's sad, but that's the generation that has been raised and catered to. Don't ever tell them they are wrong, or that they are anything less than perfect, or you will be crucified.

In the case of trolls and AFKs, you can still have a fun loss. You can even have a hell of a comeback. A game with a rager is like bleeding out through a paper cut. You're almost never going to make a comeback, and the whole thing is hell in the meantime.

I know people get competitive. It may be "just a game" but the point is still to win, I get it. But raging is more detrimental to that than trolling and AFK.

Or, here's another way to look at it. If you're annoyed by someone trolling, leaving, or doing poorly, it's probably because you know what you're doing, and you know what they could be doing if they wanted to win. That's a good thing. It puts you in a position to lead. In fact, you probably are leading, whether you know it or not, whether you mean to or not. So as soon as you get pissed and give up on the game, you're leading your team into the gutter.

The alternative is to take a breath and look again. So you've got a Teemo ADC or some shit. That's bad. But what could your team do to win? Where could you push and advantage, even being a man down? How can you exploit the other team's weaknesses with just 4 members? If you focus on that, I bet you'll be surprised how many throw-away games you end up winning.

The way I see it is that it's a game that people play for fun.

When your teammates are being abusive or not trying, it stops being fun. So it's understandable to want to surrender/afk and wait for the next game when you might have a team that's actually fun to play with.

I'm confused as to how people 'prefer' either. They both suck, AFK's just suck less because, as Mjack33 said, you can just shrug it off and play anither game after 20 minutes. So yes, if you go by the lesser of two evils I would choose and AFK. Troll is such a vague term that I'm not really going into it.

But I think I can speak for everyone that we all would 'prefer' to have neither.

Ragers more often than not are annoying and ruins the mood for the worst over the course of the game.

AFK-ers at least doesn't annoy anybody as people wait for the /ff at 20 Trolls who intentionally feed are in the same range of ragers, but the "trolls" who pick an underused champ or just building something odd while trying to at least win is not actively screwing you over, besides, you have a better chance of having fun with the "trolls" and afk.
