[Experimental Build] On-Hit Kog'Maw Jungle

So this was just an idea I came across in a comment either here or on Reddit, and I fiddled around with it in a few bot games to try and work some stuff out, wanted to post here and get some feedback. I haven't tried this in any PvP games because 1) I suck at Kog'Maw (I actually don't own him on my main), and 2) I suck at jungle. I think in the right hands and with a decent match-up (avoiding an aggressive early jungler), the build is really powerful and takes off with just two (relatively inexpensive) items.

#Build

  • Runes: 9 AD Reds, 9 Flat Armor Yellows, 9 Scaling AP Blues, 3 Attack Speed Quints

  • Masteries: 18-12-0, Fervor of Battle Keystone

  • Start: item 1041 item 2003 x3

  • Build: item 3931 item 3124 item 3158 item 3153 item 3115 item 3091 (Situational: item 3135 item 3116 item 3022 item 3036 item 3071 item 3085 )

  • Skill order: W first, R>Q>W>E

The basic idea is using Kog'Maw's W to apply tons of on-hit damage. Kog's W doubles his attack speed but reduces damage to 55%, but on-hit effects are fully applied, so you can really melt through, like, everything on the Rift. Ganks are okay, especially if you come from behind; your E slow is pretty powerful and your damage comes out pretty quick with W and Q resistance shred, but you're a devourer jungler anyways, so you're mostly focused on farming. You take dragons really fast (and you can do it over the wall if you have a few points in W and someone tanking).

You want to start W and smite Krugs; doing so basically allows you to perma-stun camps, so you take very little damage even without a leash (I was able to do a full clear without backing). Starting Machete is also good since it gives you on-hit damage, making your clear actually pretty fast. Max Q first (aside from R, obviously), because it gives you passive attack speed, and you really don't need the extra range in the jungle.

Devourer/Rageblade/BotRK are pretty self explanatory, imo. I went for lucidity boots for reduced cooldown on W, though another option could be better (maybe mobis, sorcs, or a defensive boot; I don't think you need berzerkers, your attack speed is pretty high already). Nashor's also gives you good CDR, on-hit damage that scales with AP from Rageblade, and of course, attack speed. Wit's End gives you more on-hit, plus MR (your biggest threat will probably be getting bursted down; you can sustain through a good amount of damage with lifesteal), and it also gives magic pen, which is great since a lot of your on-hit effects and W %HP damage is magic damage. The other items are just situational; Void Staff for some extra AP (especially if you went for Nashor's) and magic pen, or the various armor pen options (BC stacks up pretty fast, and you need some ramp-up time anyways for Rageblade and Fervor of Battle). You get a lot of resistance shred on your Q so again, not sure if totally necessary unless the enemy team is really stacking resistances. I don't think Runaan's is essential; on one hand, it's great for clumped enemies, especially with Rageblade, but it doesn't add stacks for Rageblade, and you're already doing AoE damage with Rageblade anyways. Your clears are also a split-second faster with Runaan's. Frozen Mallet and Rylai's are there to help you perma-slow enemies and get off more damage, since it's difficult to orb-walk when you're at max attack speed, though again, I don't think they're essential since you already have your E slow, and slows don't stack. They do give some HP though.

Try it out, let me know what you think
