when you compare...... http://lol.gamepedia.com/2016_NA_LCS/Summer_Split/Champion_Statistics

73 champs have been played or thought about being played. 23 of which have seen 6 or less games played. out of 132 champions league chooses less than half reliably. so thank you for bringing to our attention that blizzard does a better job at balance.

and things like.... which are never thought about. Galio Fiddlesticks Quinn Nunu

at least blizzard managed to get all of their heros above a 47% win rate, making them viable if not "all OP"

Overwatch is also 3 months old.

And Lucio's absolute dominance proves Riot was right about what they said regarding auras Sona

So just under half of the heroes are used in Overwatch, and less than a third of champions are used in League.

When I play Overwatch, I pretty much see all the Heroes being played. Most common ones are listed above, but there are 12 people in a game and everyone switches to several Heroes.

League however you see the same 20-30ish champions picked/banned all Season, out of what 130+ champions? Sure those 20-30ish champions vary per season and sometimes from Patch to Patch, but at most I would say every season sees 30 different champions.

Furthermore, Overwatch has been out for only a few months whereas League has been out for many years. League has never truly been in a great spot variety-wise, if it sees more than 35 champions played regularly through-out a season it is considered a balanced season... Meanwhile over 70 champions are left completely unviable or unseen for several seasons.

Just to be clear I am not bashing League and proclaiming my love for Overwatch, I don't even like Overwatch...

This is so true, Overwatch has been out for like 6-8 years, or something like that! Like, they literally just finished their thousanth patch! Like, if they take 6-8 years to balance their game out, and never reach a successful point in their history EVER- it just comes to show they balance isn't their biggest priority.

By the way, you don't want SQ, you want DQ, you don't know what you want, we do. ~Riot

You'll see that has you look to the respective divisions, the pick rate changes completely.... I'm only Bronze and as soon as I try ranked there's always a Yi or a Trynda or a Teemo ... as you go higher these champs disappear... its simply a matter of rank and skill and team demand.

If you want to spot the real differences, you should look at the historic of changes to a champ throughout the years and you'll how much love Riot gives to a fair balance among champions...

Urgot is ranked in oblivion so is Shaco and Yorick and other not so "attractive" picks, in sum, Riot only balances champions that are favored by their clients (us), and the champs they want to see in the big events...

there are not as bad as blizzard they are the badest known on the entire internet

I played all heroes so far just to try them out, but Lucio took me forever. I absolutely fucking hated Lucio's persona. He just pissed me off with his fucking garbage VO shit like ''AWWW DIS IZ MAH JAHHMMM'' GOD I HATED THAT SHIT.

But then, last week, I said ''all right... I have to play him... just once to see how he works then I can put this garbage behind me...''

Turns out he is the most broken champion in the fucking game, and I pretty much just spam him in ranks now. Kill me.

Game has only been out for sub 1 year. What has it been two months?

MLDzXnRRR8/11/2016, 10:59:32 AM1 votes

There is no reason to pick many champions over better versions of them. There was a time when Graves was just better than Lucian and noone was picking Lucian...

Now i haven't played overwatch so I can't speak for that... but as a league player... im guessing you didn't play league season 1, that fuck feast of unbalanced shit was insane, i would expect overwatch to be the same.

(I play heartstone tho... "purify for preist, the weakest class LOL)

Nvm I agree.

I'm going to show people this when they say they are moving to overwatch becuase league's balance sucks.

Quepha8/11/2016, 3:12:01 PM1 votes

No one's as bad as Blizzard is at the moment.

Droogzy8/11/2016, 4:01:57 PM1 votes

I would certainly hope a game that's been out for 6-7 years has better balance than a game that was just freshly released.

Balance in Overwatch isn't quite there yet and definitely still has some kinks, but the direction and goal of it is certainly much more defined than League's balance. And this is noticeable as the percentage different in win rates across most of the champions in Overwatch are pretty consistently close with only maybe 1 or 2 outliers...unlike League where it can wildly vary from 40% to 55%,

Also, much like League of Legends is, pro play is incredibly different then solo queue/regular play. There are champions who do better in pro play because they thrive in coordinated environments and other champions who thrive in chaotic environments, something you will rarely see at professional level.

Disclaimer: I play League way more then I play Overwatch.

And slightly off topic, I find it hilarious that Sona players hate how Riot has a death wish against their main champion who has an aura style game play, but yet Overwatch proves just how unbalanced and overbearing it is to play against a strong aura based champion with Lucio. Seems like Riot really does know better then the players sometime.

So there's a lot to this: Some of this for and against Blizzard.

  • In Overwatch (Unlike League and DOTA), you can freely swap heroes. This means there will be better-or-worse win/pick rates because of this. Realistically a 5 minute game could see all 22 heroes played. Not always gonna happen but it's possible. One-hero limit per team also leads to some situations, whereas balance was far worse when there were stupid comps like 5 tracers/1 lucio.

  • Overwatch is new and balance is building up. Same reason why League's balance has had periods of better-and-worse balancing but in generally is building up better DESPITE THE GAMEPLAY BOARDS COMPLAINING. It's also why DOTA, which is older than WoW, has some fantastic balance. (DOTA's first iterations were early 2002/2003 and the game is still being tweaked and balanced almost 15 years later. League came out realistically in 2008/2009.)

  • Statistically, Overwatch/League have similar levels of balance. LCS/LCK/etc. will see around 80-90 champions picked. Which equals about 60-70% of the cast being picked. Overwatch (as seen here) features about 14/22 heroes picked to a massive rate, so 63%. Now, you can read this either way: Overwatch has less heroes so their number is better than Leagues. Alternative, because of hero swapping and overall less/more specialized heroes, Overwatch should always have better pick rates than League and DOTA. It all depends on how you want to read it....aka "Do I wanna disparage Blizzard or Riot?"
