AOE damage supports are really good in this meta.

The reason is simple: since everyone ganks bot at this point and most matches become ARAB (all random all bot) from 10 to 15 minutes, having a second AP mid that can CC and AOE down the enemy team is better than a peeling support, especially since your ADC isn't rich enough to use your peel effectively.

Tank supports also work, of course, since having a second top laner is also more valuable than having a peel support that peels for an ADC with no damage.
