Why is no-one at Riot talking about creep block?

Creep block has been absurd for years now to the point where everyone can unanimously agree that it's complete cancer. But I can't remember any time when Riot have actually talked to it; they're very willing to talk about any other kind of gameplay problems people have, even if they only spout complete nonsense, like trying to justify Aurelion Sol's nerfs. We want answers, why do Riot continue having creep block in the game while being completely silent about it.

The creeps blocking movement isn't a problem, all units block movement, the problem is the autopathing.

Honestly its only been a real issue recently with whatever changes they made to it or autopathing. They changed it, made the issue 10,000x worse, then reverted it supposedly, but i still consistently miss CS due to my champion running in circles and not getting in range in time. And its not because i fucked up; i know my speed and my damage, and while i dont always CS the best, im not terrible at CSing. But its absolutely infuriating when you miss 1 CS due to pathing, because that 1 CS turns into 2 turns into 3 because your planned timing is entirely off due to you getting caught up on minions once.

Thats not even getting into missing a champion kill or dying PURELY because minions and pathing screws you. It was so bad one time i had only 3 minions around me, none would move, and i literally was unable to move anywhere. I had no mobility or range, so the enemy champ got a free kill on me when i should have been able to do something.

Creep blocking is fine with how it forces you to react to enemy champions; its not fine when you do plan to do something properly and the minions just straight up cock block you out of nowhere, halting your gameplay entirely.

I think Riot should experiment with removing creep block completely for at least one patch cycle, and see how things go from there. On many occasions they've stopped themselves completely from implementing a change out of fear it might break something (e.g. Hextech Protobelt making Annie impossible to counter), but when they do it's often successful. Even if they playtested the change internally and found out it didn't succeed, implementing it on the PBE could at least get to show us why creep block would need to stay.

Creep block has no place in this game. Only existed in early mobas to manipulate minion waves to pull the lane back in your favor. It never had any purpose in League. Never will. Remove it

At least address friendly creep blocking. Nothing is more irritating than getting caught between two of your own %^&#ing minions, doing a 360 about 6 times and missing CS over it, or worse yet getting killed because it effectively snared us in place for 1.5 seconds.

Riot changed something about Creep block a while ago, which made it a 1000 times worse. When that happened, they did talk about it. Not many people are complaining about it now, so there's not really a reason for them to talk about it.

What is wrong with creep block now? It isn't really that bad.

pirobot5/16/2016, 5:01:32 PM4 votes

This is the only reason I play Kassadin

SaltyKracka5/16/2016, 5:55:36 PM2 votes

They tried to solve it, but their attempt only made it worse.

So they reverted it and put the issue on the back burner.

Articality5/17/2016, 12:21:34 PM2 votes

Believe it or not, it used to be better a season or two back. I believe they wanted to make the phantom dancer's effect actually do something. And pretty sure the autopathing is the problem, not the creep/movement block.

EcchiOtakuTM5/17/2016, 9:27:41 AM2 votes

The unit collision isn't an issue at all it's the auto pathing which is.

Battlecast Sona5/17/2016, 8:53:40 PM1 votes

the real issue is that Riot has been attached to this idea of "you can't affect creep equilibrium!" and so players haven't been able to block creeps. This is why creep block is such an issue - your body won't make the creeps react any differently (they will totally circle you and make it impossible for you to move), but you really have no recourse aside from seeing it happening and moving before it happens, cause once the creeps surround you (especially if they're allied creeps) that's as far as you can interact with them.

There have been a couple of times where i'm just trying to go into the jungle but i get stuck on a creep and have to drag them along until they freak out and turn

Marshbouy5/17/2016, 12:15:16 AM1 votes

Because a lot of stuff in the game such as anivia's wall is codes as minions

KVbqbFsC8e5/17/2016, 8:37:20 AM1 votes

It has to exist because people would just stand on top of minions and make it impossible to CS.

Kyunsei5/17/2016, 10:01:42 AM1 votes

Path finding could be improved I agree.

CurlyFriezzz5/17/2016, 4:30:53 PM1 votes

More creep block is an indirect buff to Fizz .

Wolfram Oxford5/17/2016, 7:57:10 PM1 votes

One game I roamed bot as Leblanc, I got creep blocked and couldn't do shit until my W came off CD again XD I have to admit it was annoying and cost me the whole gank but damn... it was hilarious.

IcyPepper5/17/2016, 7:58:43 PM1 votes

Because being melee means you're not allowed to have fun.

At least that's what I'm getting from the patch notes.

Ghostcrawler talked about it on his ask.fm:

It creates a lot of potentially interesting situations. A great League player should be able to quickly analyze the situation on the screen at any given moment, including the position of minions. Will they keep you from reaching a target? Will they keep you from escaping? Will they block a skill shot?

The game would be a lot easier if you could just ignore the tactical implications of minions and just worry about the strategic implications (i.e. are they going to push their lane or take a tower), but we like that manipulating or responding to minion position adds an extra level of mastery. We don't want the game to be mastered too easily, or you guys might get bored. :)
