Option to ban 'none' but auto-kick when not locking in a ban

Just as the title suggests, I am wondering why is there an option in ranked and normal draft pick to lock in nothing when banning a champion, while at the same time you will be kicked for not locking in anything at all which could basically mean the same as banning 'none'...

I know that it may not be a big deal, but I don't see a reason for players to be kicked that way, resulting in unnecessary lp loss and queue penalty. Its not needed as a check for player activity as champion selection phase gives a final test to ensure players are not AFK.

Back in the day people would get into a match and then the champion select would random you a champion and you would go into game starting as an afk. So they put layers of checks to ensure you stay active during pick ban. And if internet problems happened or whatever then you would fail a check and the game would be remade. That started with accepting the match and moved on to other things. Playing back then and now I would never trade my way back to having the afks that now the game gets remade for.

The option to ban none exists so that you don't accidentally dodge a game just because you tried to ban the same thing as someone else, especially last second.

Being auto-kicked for not at least hovering a ban or choosing not to ban is so that you can't just afk in champ select as soon as you accept the pop and end up taking all the way until your champion selection turn to end up dodging due to afk. Effectively it saves other people time. Forcing players to pay at least a little attention to champ select at the start greatly increases the likelihood of a game that isn't accidentally dodged and the likelihood of a better game.

My friend got kicked for this very reason. He didn't feel like banning anyone in particular at the moment, but we both didn't realize he needed to lock in No Ban, so he got kicked. Pretty fucking silly, considering you already get kicked for not locking in your champ.

It exists so you cant just be afk in champ select

People that choose to ban nothing baffles me.

That's an easy one. If someones client bugs or their screen goes black for whatever reason and yes it does happen, then it would make sense to kick them from the lobby. It's more of a "are you there?" kind of a thing. I can see changing it doing more harm than good because it's not that hard to lock in a ban.

No, I feel this. I don't have lag or frame rate issues in game. But champ select bugs out and moves slow on my computer a lot. Sometimes I dodge my accident because my computer just decides it doesn't want me to ban a champ. I feel like just abstaining from bans automatically should be fine. We don't need it as an afk check. That's what picking your champion is for.

Alright, I've seen strong arguments here and there and I completely agree with Automated Riven that this system is so much better than it used to be back in the day.

But in the end, we pretty much have tons of layers for anti AFK protection especially with this current remake system.

Maybe I'm just salty for my pc being slow in the champion select screen when my whole process of banning a champion takes up like 8 seconds.

It is needed as a final check. It's not hard at all to lock in a ban (and, if you're having problems doing that, you either a) Probably shouldn't be playing League, because you can't do anything, or b) Need to stop waiting to the last possible second to lock in, because it's wasting everyone's time), so you really have no excuse for that.

Honestly, I cannot think of a compelling reason that people shouldn't be forced to ban a champion.

I rarely have strong ban opinions, so I will ask my allies for ban requests and just pick the first one I see.

If even that is too much work for someone, they can ban a champion at random. It's not like banning a champion places a particularly heavy burden on people.
