I'm a noob who's infatuated with Evelynn. Send help!

Hi!

When I was just starting out, I'd play Mid and Support, since I didn't have Smite. After I got Smite, I attempted the Jungle but found that it was much harder than the other roles. I might have brought down a few of my teams...once or twice... :(

But after doing plenty of research, watching a few of my replays, and getting better at the game as a whole, I'm a much better Jungler. I'm far from perfect, but I can avoid feeding, assist in ganks, snipe objectives, etc. And it's quite a lot of fun.

After derping around with Warwick and Master Yi, I discovered Evelynn. I love her stealth and charm mechanics, and her other skills are pretty interesting, IMO. It feels awesome to Charm someone, and then have them unwittingly run right past my hiding spot. (This probably doesn't happen at higher skill levels, but I'm aware of other mindgame-y tricks.)

However, I feel that I could do better. Other junglers usually have the upper hand for most of the game. I tend to get B and B+ ranks, and I would like to bump that up a bit. (I know that grades aren't necessarily the best indicator of skill, but I think it's "good enough" for now, because I'm still a few levels away from being able to play Ranked.)

Aside from general tips, I was hoping for some second opinions on my Runes. I was initially using the runes from a guide, but I made my own guide, which I put together after playing as Evelynn for a while. The goal is to give me tools to escape if I get jumped, or use hit-and-run tactics if necessary.

  • Sorcery
  • Phase Rush
  • Nimbus Cloak
  • Absolute Focus
  • Water Walking
  • Domination
  • Sudden Impact
  • Ultimate Hunter

Phase Rush is the rune I rely on most heavily. If necessary, it lets me make a quick getaway after plinking someone with all of my skills. Against tanky targets, this means I don't die because I can't kill them fast enough. And whether chasing or being chased, it guarantees I can get the advantage.

Nimbus Cloak... I'm not sure about this one. It's been useful, but Nullifying Orb might be more useful. However, Orb hasn't worked especially well for me, and Cloak serves two purposes. First, it lets me escape in a bind, but it's a bad day when I have to use it like this. Second, it lets me totally reposition in a team fight after executing one or two champs. This means that they will have a much harder time playing around my next Charm.

Also unsure about Water Walking. The alternative would be Gathering Storm. However, Water Walking allows me to be a little more sloppy with my placement on the map. As I get better, I'll be experimenting with Gathering Storm.

The Domination Runes are pretty standard. If I could take a different rune, it would be Eyeball Hunter. But out of the three runes, Eyeball Hunter is the most win-more, and Sudden Impact's armor-piercing stuff seems much more useful throughout the game.

Thoughts? Tips? Flames?

i go with domination + sorcery

electrocute (which assassin isn't running this?) sudden impact (free pen thats easy to proc) ghost poro (more damage) relentless hunter (more pace)

clerity (even more pace and damage) scorch (dot damage)

I used to go ultimate hat but riot have a hard on for the domination tree and doesn't want other runes to have fun

You actually dont do enough damage to kill anyone early w/o electrocute

Always buy rabadon. It buffs your passive to warmog class proportions.

One mechanic I don't see used frequently enough is using Eve R for a gap closer. Some examples here I find myself getting a few kills almost every game I play her by knowing how and when to use her R to get into range for various combos of WQE. mid and late game almost any target that dies to her R and flash, dies to her R and E. Much better to save the SS cd imo.

Also far to many eve players only go for charm, its a great charm, great CC, and hey who doesn't like MR shred, but if you got a low hp target and all you need is to get E off, Try getting as close as you can before breaking vision, Cast Q, then before the Q lands Cast W on them. BOOM instant slow right out of breaking stealth. Its pretty hard to dodge, need good reflexes and SS or ability. 65% slow for 2+ seconds is solid.

Get good at dancing around champions with her passive, Being able to weave thru a lane and evade detection is an important mechanic. I spend a lot of time really close to enemy in the detection range, waiting for a teammate or them to make the move. less reaction time for them to evade. I hate long range W casts if im unable to follow up. If im able to cut them off, get into range, or R into Q into teammates dunking them then Its k. but to many folks rush from lane W soon as its in range, and enemys just walk backwards and its wasted a gank opperunity.

Personally im all about feast or famine, I run Dark harvest or Electrocute, core item tends to be item 3041 item 3100 . Imo harvest is better late game when her E starts to really gib targets, electrocute is stronger early game. Harvest also gives away your position some if there's cannon minions, but it also gives her stronger teamfights as it can chain with her E multiple times in a fight. And way I see it late game they already know your around in a teamfight so its not to bad of a handy cap and as a player you can keep tabs on cannon spawns and hit lanes when they don't have any present/don't need to care your positioned to damage/kill lanes even if they know your inc.

I use her R all the time all game and prioritize its CDR, So I run ulti hunter. Also run the 20% and MP on takedown rune and the extra % damage to low HP targets. MS is great, but the advantage of perma stealth means I have plenty of time to position properly befor engaging that its not as vital to me as getting higher R cdr, More up time more threat time. Ghost poro is a nice team SS, Eyeball is also a good option. I don't see any reason to not run Lethality, Cheep shots aight and all but you get a lot of up time with her E and passive.

The only advice I have for you on dealing with invades is kite the hell out of camps with her Q early game, only auto attack blue/red when your at the end of a pathing and have to walk thru the camp. If you kite well you keep your HP bar very full and it reduces the odds of their invade being succusful. Don't instantly W the 2nd big camp or skuttles, get a bit of vision. W being down removes your ability to duel, or fight for a camp. I have survived a lot of invades by using W as they try to steal camp. Walk in Q, Smite, walk off.

Her W, it will point an arrow at you, but only after it has fully charged into a charm. Her W can also be fun to fake out lanes, walk into range cast W walk off to clear camps or rush to a different lane.

As other stated, once you have Rabadons, your passives typically "eve regenerates to max hp when out of combat"

Again My going ham its not the playstyle for everybody, when I jungle eve if 2 lanes lost moderately bad then odds are that's GG, wont be able to snowball, cant get momentum to fix 2 bad lanes.

Try this rune settup

Electrocute Sudden impact Ghost poro Ultimate hunter

Absolute focus Scorch

Thats the settup i use as it gives you the highest amount of damage in a gank and it bolsters your clear quite considerably if you have ghost poro and focus' conditions met, getting deep vision and kiting camps is real easy for eve

In mid/late game you always want to be looking for flanks, you want to be lurking in enemy escape routes or just generally behind them to pinch them with your teammates if you find urself engaging from behind ur team yr gonna have a bad time as eve has little direct mobility to get through the frontline and onto the high priority backliners

Just watch IWillDominate and Metaphor. The jungle is difficult to explain in a forum post.

It's easier absorbed through observation than a wall of text.
