Gold Syndrome
Anyone else have to deal with this? Someone gets into Gold 5 and they start talking like they are LCS, telling you how to play all of your champions, telling you what items you should have by however many minutes in. For some perspective, I'm a Silver player, I main support so it is kind of hard to climb the ranks, but I will say my playing level is mostly Silver. Also, I am not much of a ranked fan, I played 30 ranked games last year, and I've played 8 ranked games this year.
Then a couple of my friends have the patience to grind ranked queues to get into Gold V. As far as my friends go, they were at the bottom. Flaming, raging, going on tilt. If an enemy killed them, it was "luck" or the champion that killed them was "OP." Then you couldn't rely on them for the rest of the game because they were too busy drowning in salt to help the team.
BUT AFTER THEY GOT TO GOLD V...... They caught Gold Syndrome.
No longer were they puny silver peasants, they had ascended the ranks and achieved Gold V. They were gods among men. Suddenly they knew how to play every champion better than their friends, and were experts on the in-game math and micro.
...Except not. They were still the same flamers we had known before, but they thought that damned Gold V sigil next to their name made them the coolest cats on the block.
So if you manage to climb your way out of Silver, congrats! Keep climbing. Sadly, you are not automatically DoubleLift, so understand that if you try to flaunt your meek superiority over your Silver friends, that you will not have any friends left to game with, because Gold Syndrome drives people up a fucking wall.
Rant. Over.
