Data and Champion Balance part 1 my reply below.

i got a little sad just reading this.... there are three types of data that need be removed.....

these three insignificant data are : 1: win rates and 2: play rates 3: ban rates

the win rate does not indicate a champion's viability, it also does not indicate a player's skill rate.... what it indicates is, that a specific set of team wins, against a specific set of team..... there are simply too many factors that affect the outcome, any champion barely affects this. the data simply is how well a team (players) performs, not how well a champion performs.

the only way to test this, and have significant data is by having TWO employee (always the same ones) test every champion against each other INCLUDING mirror battles to determine the champion its viability/kit/power etc.

play rates only show popularity. due to this data. the win rates fluctuate.... as stated by jules. as stated by me, win rates are poop.... they mean nothing.... play rates should not be held in account in balancing. urgot, trundle, yorick all unpopular and yet they are more than viable, maybe even slightly overpowered.

and another thing, when players are complaining about popular champions being overpowered..... they might actually be overpowered.... why not be honest and say :

just because they are popular and we earn loads of money we refuse to nerf them because we would drop our income.

oh they are unpopular lets ignore them or we have to remake the champion's look too much trouble time and money, buffing does not necessarily make them popular.

instead of saying :

other words, we won’t nerf champions just because they’re popular and we won’t buff champions just because they’re unpopular.

as for ban rates.... its hardly healthy anymore... players should ban counters NOT overpowered popular champions.... this should NEVER EVER have/be(been) significant data to balancing...

AKA

STOP LOOKING AT THIS FROM THE COMMUNITY SIDE!

AND START LOOKING AT THIS FROM A DEVELOPER SIDE!

MORE ISOLATED TESTING< BETTER DATA (CONTROLLED DATA)! <----- DO THIS! EXPERIMENTING!....... (CHAOS DATA/GHOST DATA) <--- STOP THIS!

just a suggestion....
