My suggestion for ranked is one like in challenger

I just see no drawbacks whatsoever to being ranked relative to others. No divisions, nothing, just a number. Or dynamic divisions, without promos, simply holding in a set % of the playerbase each.

For matchmaking, you just compare the ranks. You first look for people in the 200 numbers around, then further, then further etc.

^ Things like promos and series make ranked seem even more frivolous because luck can literally get you promoted or stuck in X rank.

Nah, this system is much simpler for stuff like handing out season rewards and the simplicity of recognizing someone's rank. For example, If you say you are rank 400,000 on the leader board and someone else says I'm rank 350,000, you will know they are 50,000 spots better, but since the majority of the player base is bronze and silver, 50,000 spots might not even be a noticeable difference in skill. In contrast, the difference between the guy who is rank 30,000 and the guy who is rank 15,000 is way bigger.

Also I don't see why people in lower ranks would even want this. Wouldn't you rather say "I'm Gold IV" instead of "I'm rank 217,983" or whatever the heck it would be. The tier system in place now is more satisfying as you get a "token" of your rank, instead of just a number. Especially since the number of payers adversely affected by the current system is not really important. Yeah sure you may be a little unlucky with how you win your games, but it's going to be a difference of 1 or 2 tiers, not like "I deserve challenger, but I'm plat 5 because I can't win games in the right order."

You're relatively new to LoL, aren't you?

What you're proposing is essentially the old Elo system. It was toxic as fuck. Now granted, there was more going on than Elo, but Elo helped multiply the problem.

Basically, people acted like if they were 10 points higher (less than a game of rating often), that meant they were clearly superior players.

You think it's bad with gold acting like assholes to silvers? Imagine that, but with a half a game difference in rating. Oh, and this was pre choose-a-role. So people would argue that their rating should give them priority pick.

Even if you changed the system 99% of you would still be rotting in bronze/silver/gold lol. The "system" isn't holding you back.

The only real problem this current season is the fact upper MMRS skill differential between each player is hilariously vast, and part of that is simply because there's a lot of smurfs + scripters + people that frankly just don't care.

Like, I don't know why my autofilled TOP laner has to fight Dyrus, or why Dekar is my jungler, or why I have to have Tobias Fate's trash ass in my team so I end up dodging.

But you know, that's the nature of the game.

I'd rather have a system like what happens between Masters and Challengers, where the lower guys get moved down and the higher ones move up.

Just have a certain % of ranked accounts that can be a certain division/tier and update them up or down once a day depending on the points of the next or previous rank.

No promos and a sense of achievement in the form of division tiers.

Then how the heck are Diamond 1 players going to flame the Diamond 5 players?

Fondling Gems3/21/2017, 3:40:01 AM1 votes

The one "issue" with it is that it leads to inflated numbers. Basically so long as someone keeps winning at the top their score will infinitely scale up. Seasons probably wouldn't make sense with the system which means that the effective score of players would keep rising since the lowest players can't drop into negatives. Similar to Dota2 I believe. The average MMR of a good player from a year or two ago is pretty mediocre today because the top players maintain a positive winrate which keeps boosting their MMR infinitely so long as they keep playing.

Not sure if this would actually be an issue but I understand Riot wanting to avoid that inflation of ranking.

If only man

Mig893/20/2017, 8:00:42 PM1 votes

That's the dream but that bronze ladder would be yuuuuuuuge

ZephyrDrake3/20/2017, 9:55:20 PM1 votes

so... the only difference would be what you can see and nothing more? since matchmaking is pretty much this. It looks at your MMR and tries to pair you with others with similar MMR
