Preseason Q&A

Sorry all, this post is here because my account lvl is a bit too low to post in the Dev's Corner, but I still have stuff to ask and say

So the topic is under Marksmen specifically Quinn. Here is what was said "Current thinking is that a few other marksmen probably also need adjustments" "We're also looking at Quinn to try and shift some of her power from raw damage back into utility, though aren't sure yet whether we'll have changes we're happy with for 5.23 or not." - Riot Meddler

In terms of the type utility I really like the path that Riot has started to approach with Quinn Apparently Riot would like Quinn to become the map mobility/roaming champion of marksmen. Ex.

"In choosing where we wanted Quinn to shine, we took these things into consideration, and the conclusion we came to was that she would be the most interesting, unique marksman possible if she had map presence like no other marksman (or potentially no other champion) in the game." "we are aiming for her to be a marksman that excels at map presence over all others out there. If you feel like she's not living up to that, it would help me greatly to let me know that she isn't, and why." - Riot Repertoir

  • Is this still the path that is being pursued in terms of utility with Quinn?
  • Could we also possibly see other types of utility or will it be solely map mobility/roaming?
  • What about utilities that can be paired with roaming, or map presence?
  • Could these utilities help her become a marksman/ support?

I can see that this may be the case "Admittedly, we missed the mark on the proper supporting changes, hence our reaction to re-institute a utility-focused Q in 5.23, but we do think that the changes to her ultimate open up a lot of doors for her both strategically and tactically." - Riot Repertoir

I believe that Quinn has the potential to be a better "map presence" over all others out there." In terms of utility Quinn and Valor are almost there, they just need a few more things

The first thing that comes to mind with map presence is objectives, second would be mobility, and third vision. -- Mobility; has already been taken care of, we know: R grants massive MS (kite for days!), and now W grants a temporary MS buff, and I am glad that Riot did this. But it can still be improved. Suggestion 1: While using Tag Team allow W to increase MS on cast (could help them dodge skill shots since it only takes one hit for Tag Team to be deactivated) Suggestion 2: While using Tag Team change Vault (E) to a skillshot dash that can bypass walls, this allows for more mobility. In addition offensive action should only counts if Quinn comes in contact with an enemy unit. -- Objectives; If Quinn is to have a strong map presence she and her allies should have incentives for using this "map presence," otherwise it feels more like an aura: Borderline invisible Suggestion: marking an objective monster (Dragon, Rift Herald, and Nashor) with your passive should also be its own unique Ping as well, to let her team mates know what she is doing, or wants to do. Suggestion: a marked objective monster should take bonus damage from her team mates as well, but only after she attacks will the mark be consumed. -_- Vision; this is handled only partially in terms of what it appears Riot wants for Quinn. W is great, sure a 2100 range reveal for 2 seconds. It is not bad, but if you want Quinn to excel at map presence shes gonna need more than that. As it stands its good for checking a bush for an ambush, but it is not enough and does not have a huge impact on the flow of the game, it doesn't scream (screech) excels at map presence. As it stands right now its actually better for dueling or chasing than it is for utility. Suggestion 1: Change W from a "point blank AoE" to a ground targetted AoE. I would also suggest increasing the cast range and duration of sight. This would allow Quinn and Valor to reveal a large section of the map for her team rather than a smallish area only around herself. The MS buff can be granted running towards the AoE and within the AoE. Its even better now that Clairvoyance has been removed. Suggestion 2: While Tag Team is active grant Quinn an increased sight radius. Suggestion 3: While Tag Team is active allow Quinn (within her Normal 1200 sight radius) to see everything including in bushes and over walls within a 800 unit radius. This can come in the form of...

  • a.) W (point blank AoE) with a (much) longer duration.
  • b.) W becoming a toggle ability that drains mana.
  • c.) a permanent passive as long as Tag Team is active.

Now that screams "THIS IS A MARKSMAN THAT EXCELS AT MAP PRESENCE". As it stands right now it feels lackluster because all she has going for her niche of excelling at map presence is that she has moments when she move fast really often.

Ex. "Tag Team (R) has been heavily repurposed into a strategic map mobility tool:" "R reworked as a utility focused spell -> 0 cooldown and gives quinn crazy out of combat speed to quickly move around the map" That's it. So yes she can get around the map and help her team and do stuff sure. But lets think about the stuff that she can do on her way to helping her team, or what her tools are to help once she gets there. Cause that MS is not enough, what makes it different from Master Yi's ult then? Cause we can say it also is a "strategic map mobility tool:" I feel that these suggestions present a much better Quinn, and a better developed role for what is trying to be achieved.
