So out of genuine curiosity, why isn't URF just permanent?

This isn't another "where's URF?!" post.

I am genuinely curious why - with all the popular demand of URF - Riot has not released URF as a permanent mode. The mode is already created, it's not like it will take a tremendous amount of man hours to get it in the game. What gives? People have been begging for it for years now. It's really quite interesting to see Riot blatantly ignore players like this. It kind of seems like it'd be in their best interest to just release the mode permanently instead of using the whole carrot-on-a-stick method. Riot, do you even know why the mode hasn't been made permanent?

Is there any official word on this? Any reason why they hate URF and won't respond to the players on the topic of URF?

Lol @ downvotes. Ask a legit question and all the kiddies rage.

Personally, I feel like URF should not be available permanently- people will just get bored and ask for a different mode. Riot has experienced Dominion's failure as a permanent game mode anyways, and sees a better alternative in the rotating game modes for variety.

I love that people jump right to "It'll get boring fast". Don't you think players are bored of SR (Norms + Ranked) I mean, common sense. No, it's not because it'll get boring fast. Now, don't get me wrong. I'd love if URF became a permanent game mode. The reason they won't make it permanent, is because it takes away from the game. It takes people away from normals and ranked. It's understandable but believe me, I have been fighting on the boards all day for URF. I'd enjoy it even if they just put it up for 2 weeks, like usual. But, Riot doesn't want to listen to the players. It is their company and they will do with it what the please. But again, I'd love to see URF be perma.

Because it gets boring really fast.

It loses impact if it's permanent. An example of this is McDonald's specialty sandwiches. It's always "For a limited time." Drives up sales and demand for the product, even if people don't necessarily like the product as much. It also results people overbuying when the item returns, due to limited avaiblity.

Riot have spoken about why they don't make gamemodes permanent in the past - the short duration of the rotating gamemodes is designed for the same reason. Nothing to do with a game company randomly hating a gamemode it made.

Riot wont make this mode perma because hardly anyone would play normals. Why would you want to play a 45 minute game when you can play a 20 minute game which is more fast paced not only in time but in thought and skill.

URF is not that popular. Stop assuming that the boards even represents 5% of the player base.

Reviving necro- threads which already had their time to shine is against Universal Rules and as such I will be locking this thread to make sure it lands at the bottom of the howling abyss. I would strongly encourage looking at how old a thread is before commenting on it.

Should there be any questions regarding this action feel free to reach out in our Moderation Discord.

If it was a permanent game mode, people would expect it to be balanced. It isn't balanced - it's fun because it's not balanced. Over time, people will start asking for balance though. I mean, look at ARAM. Even though it's somewhat balanced people still ask for changes every so often.

Also, it's on the same map as normal gameplay. Which means it would take away from that crowd. Riot's new queue system is already making queue times longer, permanent URF would only make them worse.

Riot doesn't make money from URF either. They may sell a few URF-related skins, but those still took work and probably don't sell any better than any other well designed skin.

I enjoy URF as much as the next guy. It's all I play while it's available. Towards the end of the 2 weeks though, I'm ready to return to normal play. I think keeping it as an occasional mode allows you to remember the good and forget the bad. In permanent modes where you see X overpowered champion or whatever every game and get salty about it. No one minds if Hecarim or Nidalee or Ezreal or whatever is super popular in URF, but they may start to if it were permanent.

Because its an event. The population would dwindle, sales of urf skins wouldnt mean anything, and have you ever been present at an urf launch? last year it took like 15 minutes to even log in. It's limited for a reason, money.

Because in my opinion, Riot's lazy. When they addressed why they were scrapping Dominion, all they basically said was "we want people to play summoner's rift more". That's the only thing people can play. Twisted Treeline is a mess, because of the amount of fake bot accounts that play on it. ARAM gets boring quick. They just don't want to take the time to balance another game mode, because all they care about is Summoner's Rift, and e-sports (or e-$port$ as I like to call it) . Hell, it took them a literal 10 years just to make a new client for their game, despite the overflowing feedback from the community about how bad it is. I miss the days when Riot actually cared about what the community had to say in regards to League. I only keep coming back to this game because I've sunk so much time and money into it. Now I'm sure either someone is going to whiteknight the hell out of them for these decisions, or I'll get banned or "punished" for talking bad about them.
