Difference of Top lane and ADC?

Hello,

I wanted to ask everyone what the unique difference of Top lane and ADC was, mainly because I am mediocre at best as ADC/Jungle/Mid/Supp but not at all good with Top lane. I am decent at CS, objectives and kills but when it comes to top lane all I want to do is farm and stay in lane. It's also apparent in my enemy's actions that they do the same. Is it like this for everyone? Or just low elo?

Thank you for your time. Caitlyn

Nah, it's not just you. Top is a nice little island.

Top lane is usually a farm lane for quite a while. For the first fifteen or so minutes of a match it's like playing tug of war. Junglers generally focus more on ganking for the mid and bottom lanes unless it's just easy kills to gank for top, so in most cases you're usually left alone with the enemy laner. Nine times out of ten you won't even have the first kill in the top lane, barring someone making a massive mistake, until one of them hits level 6 before the other.

In general you both stick around until one of you gets the other's turret and then start roaming, only going back up to top if you need to score some more CS, to try and go for another push, or to stop an enemy from pushing.

Essentially, the top lane is where fighters or tanks, or the odd assassin, spend the first third of a game building up whatever damage and/or resistances they need to be able to initiate fights for the carries.

Carries are weaker early game, so they tend to require a support, while tanks/bruisers can handle themselves well and provide utility to the team later on in teamfights which is where they somewhat help eachother, ADC takes advantage of the (usually) high utility/cc of the toplane to secure kills and make it to victory.
