What's the counterplay for Thresh?

I dun get it. Unless they're like.. bad players we seem to have a very hard time dealing with them in lane. So much engage and even more disengage. And if he lands a hook in a bad situation there isn't really any risk to it because he doesn't have to go in unlike Leona or Blitz who both pretty much have to all in on it. He's super tanky with self heals so punishing him is hard and he can save his AD in almost any situation so punishing them is hard too.

Anyone know any tricks or anything that I don't? Haven't been playing much at all lately but starting up again we've run into him pretty much every game.

Avoid the hook? I'm not sure what you're asking for. I mean one way you could minimize risk and his ability to disengage is to go morgana support. Her Black shield will stop the cc effect of the hook and her Q will hold down anyone it hits long enough to basically nullify his disengage. if you're adc, you could go Sivir and use your spell shield to block the hook.

"Don't get hooked" = counterplay

In all seriousness, though, a good Thresh is going to dictate the lane, barring consistently excellent plays by any other champion in the lane. Best bet is probably to determine if you have the upper hand with either sustained poke or all-in, and if not, play safe and wait for him to do something stupid.

I just find that no matter what happens - when he misses hooks or they make a poor play it's impossible to punish them. They have too much disengage with just him alone. and he has lots of innate tankyness. Probably just frustrated that I lost my first game back in a while but the trend seems to continue pretty much every time we play ranked. I think we play against thresh 80% of the time - at the point where I'm probably just going to ban him if I get captain because he seems to be the support everyone goes to by default.

The hook itself isn't even really our issue.

I just have to say Thresh doesn't have any self heals and early levels he has zero tanky stats.

I main support so i deal with thresh. They do try and act cute with me all the time. Unless my ADC plays stupid and gets caught i will punish thresh harder then he can punish me.

Only supports i consider strong. Zyra, Sona, and Taric. All other supports i have played are weak

Thresh - Has no sustain or natural defense. Play champions with heavy pokes and disengage. Zyra, Karma, Janna, and Taric. I would say Lulu, but she isn't worth it anymore.

Zyra or karma: just throw crap at thresh or the adc and profit.

Taric: just stand between thresh and your adc. Treat him like blitz and if he gets close stun him and hope your adc follow with a few attacks then back off and if he hooks you stun his adc and go ham.

Janna: More of a safe pick for disengage.

Lulu: The old way was CC ADC and kill him when thresh hooks your adc, but early levels her mana cost is really bad. So you might be oom when its needed, because unless your adc knows how to play with lulu she will make you blow your mana trying to save her from just harass

Edit:

I see you're a ADC "Ashe" Main. I hate to tell you ADC will have no control over bot lane. It really only comes down to supports and second you play ashe no mobility so thresh will catch you eventually and if they get away it is because you have no mobility. Most likely you use your ult to initiate or they just dash or flash out of the way.

Once again bot lane is all about the supports. if you are losing to thresh its because of your support.

Stand behind minions to counter the hook. If he tries walking up to you, keep yourself behind minions and attack him/the adc. Because he's walking up to you to try to cc/hook you, you'll have minion aggro advantage. Keep a larger minion wave than the enemy. If he misses a hook go aggressive. He's not that great of a support anymore.

Either have disengage or poke.

Lulu Janna Annie are good for poking.

Leona Alistar are decent at punishing him as well.
